Hulu is on the block again, as its corporate parents (and content partners) are taking bids for the streaming video site. According to multiple reports, there are now seven bidders for Hulu, including pay TV operators DirecTV and Time Warner Cable; private equity firms KKR, Guggenheim Digital, The Chernin Group, and Silverlake Partners (along with talent agency William Morris Endeavor); and, coming in at the last minute is media-tech company Yahoo.

Spotify leads the world’s on-demand subscriptions with six million paying subscribers, but it’s facing stiff competition from a company that isn’t even available in the biggest music market on the planet: Deezer, which tells us it now has over four million paying subscribers to its “premium plus” subscription.

 

Though you cannot access it from the United States, Deezer is available in more territories than any other on-demand service, according to this data. And like Spotify, MOG, and other subscriptions, it has seen usage increase follow its integration with Facebook, so that people can see what their friends are listening to on there.

The top 10 music apps on Facebooktotal 74M monthly active users (MAU), according to a new analysis fromMetricsMonk. That's an increase of 18M MAU since the same time last year.  The top 5 total 61M monthly active users, and just over half of those are for Spotify with 33M MAU.

 

The Spotify app has seen huge growth over the past year, almost doubling its number of Facebook app users from 19M MAU at this time last year.  Pandora, SoundCloud, Deezer and iHeartRadio complete the top five music apps, but none approach Spotify's dominance. H

Facebook Strategic Partnerships manager Ime Archibong handed out social networking tips for musicians and music companies, while Twitter #Music's Stephen Phillips pleaded for patience from the industry at the opening of the SF Musictech Summit XIII at San Francisco's Hotel Kabuki on Tuesday.

 

Archibong started the twice-a-year gathering of more than a thousand technologists, dealmakers and musicians by pointing music app developers to Facebook's new acquisition, Parse, which is a service that runs apps across multiple platforms. Facebook purchased the "mobile-backend-as-a-service" startup in April for a rumored $85 million, Techcrunch reported.

 

"If you are an early developer I'd actually say go look at the Parse ecosystem and the tools and the services they provide. It gives you a way of looking at the backend and everything you use to scale out across the platform to mobile apps instead of just focusing in on the user experience, the UI, the fun parts," Archibong said.

Twitter CEO Dick Costolo and his team are launching a new video content promotion tool called Twitter Amplify.

 

The launch partners include A&E, Bloomberg TV, Clear Channel, Discovery, MLB, New York magazine, NCM, PGA Tour, The Audience, Time Inc., Vevo, Vice, Variety, and Warner Music Group.

 

The new product allows media companies to push small video clips on Twitter — such as sports highlights or tornado footage — out to followers, accompanied by a brief video ad as a pre-roll or post-roll.
