Neil Young and Pono pushing new top-quality digital music

Neil Young and Pono pushing new top-quality digital music | music | Scoop.it

Through the upcoming Pono player and associated download service, Neil Young and music industry giants hope to change the digital music game.

Aaron Payauys's insight:

It's hard to think that over this technological era, we've come up with less and less quality music players. This article explains how this age has transformed quality into quantity, but PONO is changing that. PONO is attempting to create a device the converts digital to analogue in a way never before to bring the best sound out of a portable device.

A Guest Post by Ramin Streets

Aaron Payauys's insight:

This article is jammed pack with tons of great reasons to know. I find it strange that the whole record company stealing instead of doing their real job finding the next big thing. Also the music talent that we lack today is limiting us to another world of music.

damn right! kill the record industry!
William Hopewell's curator insight, December 2, 2015 3:48 PM

A huge point in this article talks about how record labels and artists decieve the public and the fans. High ticket prices and albums that only have 1-2 excellent songs with the rest as fillers don't help the cause. Only true fans who adore the aritst will purchase these expensive tickets but for those who like the music they won't purchase these. I understand that it is a celebrity and that money must be made somehow but this is ridiculous. Along with releasing an album with half-baked songs. Of couse the best songs are released as singles but the other ones should be able to be released as singles too. Albums that only have 1-2 good songs are most likely record labeled controlled albums.

Music these days are almost always compressed, and the article  defines comp. as consistent sound signal creating a minimum in dynamics. The writer of this article analysis Steve Guttenburg's comments on compression in this era, and he brings a lot of good info to consider.

The Top 3 Things Popular Music can teach us about Collaborative Innovation

The Top 3 Things Popular Music can teach us about Collaborative Innovation | music | Scoop.it

This might have been better titled, What does Clayton Christensen and Christina Aguilera have in common?” You might think the world of popular music would consistently be a hotbed of innovation, but if you look at the last century and the start of this one, you’ll note innovation is slow to creep into the field.

Aaron Payauys's insight:

This article compares the similarities of old school and young bloods. It shows how pop music regressed/digressed based on your opinion. The points this article describes are that the song is relevant, catchy, and new diversity. If you obtain all these, then you have yourself a good piece of work.
