En mayo y septiembre de 2013 tuvieron lugar sendos seminarios
coorganizados por los grupos Laboratório de Novas Tecnologias do Centro de Ciências da Educação (Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina) y Laboratorio
de Medios Interactivos (Universitat de Barcelona) bajo el común título “Redefiniendo la Universidad: nuevos modelos para el aprendizaje en red”. Fruto de aquellos seminarios es este libro en el que algunos de los participantes recogen sus reflexiones y experiencias. Finalmente el título del libro se transformó en “La universidad en la nube” (“A universidade na nuvem”).

La incorporación de las TIC en la educación ha abierto grandes posibilidades paramejorar los procesos de enseñanza y de aprendizaje. Sin embargo, no es sufi cientecon dotar a las escuelas de computadores. Hace falta abordar, al mismo tiempo,un cambio en la organización de las escuelas y en las competencias digitales delos profesores. También es necesario avanzar en la incorporación de las nuevas tecnologías en los entornos familiares para reducir la brecha digital. Este libro ofrece distintas refl exiones y puntos de vista sobre el papel que desempeñan las nuevas tecnologías, y profundiza en el debate sobre el sentido educativo de las TIC.

This course for learners of English looks at British culture and examines English in use to help you improve your language skills.
Dr. Doris Molero's insight:

This course is for people who are learning English and who are interested in finding out more about British culture and improving their English language skills.

The course will use short videos to present a different topic each week, including English as a global language, the environment, entrepreneurship and literature. Filmed in Great Britain, these videos will help you to develop your listening skills as you watch authentic examples of people speaking English. Our experienced tutor will examine some of the language used in the videos and will draw your attention to useful points that will help you improve your spoken and written English.

The course does not follow a language syllabus but takes authentic English in context as its starting point. Short quizzes and discussions will help you measure your understanding and practise your English throughout the course. At the end of each week you will be asked to describe your own feelings and experiences about that week’s topic in a short piece of writing.

The course draws on the British Council’s expertise in online learning and will give you the opportunity to purchase a Statement of Participation.

Dr. Doris Molero's insight:
 Figuring out what makes this medium unique over other traditional mediums such as painting, sculpture, cinema or performance.  What can our virtual space be used for that sets it apart as a unique form of art?  Does it have the ability to excel past the strengths of other mediums?      I have said in the past that I think of my artwork here in virtual worlds almost as paintings you can enter and explore.  The beauty of a painting, the immersion of cinema and then meshed in with a new type of open ended freedom of movement combined with interaction.  There are many new and interesting techniques to experiment with inside the virtual artform.   The one which I brought up at the beginning, that ties into my new build Imogen and the pigeons, is creating immersion within the artistic environment by creating scenarios which challenge the viewer.  I generally don't put out text or arrows to tell the viewer where to go or what to do.  I feel this can break the immersion so I let the viewer discover on their own.                                                                                                                            Bryn Oh

Cuando la alfabetización básica había dejado de ser una preocupación, volvemos a oír hablar de letrados y analfabetos en la sociedad actual, en la Sociedad de la Información. Y lo hacemos respecto a la cultura digital, el mundo mediado a través de las Tecnologías de la Información y la Comunicación (TIC). La escuela y la familia se erigieron como los actores fundamentales de la alfabetización tradicional. Hoy siguen ostentando el protagonismo formal, pero su posición se ve cada día más disputada por otros agentes. Padres y profesores se sienten preocupados y sorprendidos ante un proceso en el que cambian con frecuencia los papeles y el fl ujo de conocimiento.

Ante esta situación surge una serie de preguntas: ¿en qué consiste la alfabetización digital?; ¿cuáles son sus contenidos, sus agentes y sus objetivos deseables?; ¿cuál es el papel de los profesores?; ¿cómo se instruyen los formadores de esta nueva alfabetización?; ¿cómo afrontan los padres y las familias el protagonismo creciente de las TIC en los distintos ámbitos de formación de sus hijos?; ¿qué demandas plantean a la escuela?

Este informe, fruto de la colaboración entre Fundación Telefónica y Fundación Encuentro, intenta dar respuesta a estas preguntas y preocupaciones.

A course on English and teaching methodology that aims to help university lecturers to do their teaching in English, in line with university internationalisation policies.

This MOOC targets lecturers who wish to begin using English in their teaching. A priori, this means university lecturers from countries where English is not the L1 or a widely-used language (Romance language-speaking countries, for example), though in fact the course is open to teachers from all educational stages who want to teach through English, following the principles of EMI (English Medium Instruction).


English for Teaching Purposes is a course provided by the Language Service at theUniversitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB).

El material que continúa a estas líneas recupera un conjunto de experiencias en el contexto de la educación en la nueva modalidad educativa presencial y en Red, que es posible gracias al trabajo en colaboración con académicos de iberoamérica, quienes convencidos de las bondades de dicha modalidad educativa nos aportan su conocimiento y experiencia para contribuir a mejorar los procesos de aprendizaje individuales y en colaboración en la Red RITUAL (Red Iberoamericana de Innovación e Investigación en Tecnologías y Usos aplicados al Aprendizaje eLectrónico). Es continuación de un proyecto educativo de recuperación de experiencias en distintas latitudes, en el cual se realizan esfuerzos por difundir las distintas experiencias que se desarrollan en Iberoamérica, en especial el Congreso Iberoamericano de Aprendizaje Mediado por Tecnología efectuado en la ciudad de México en el año 2012, en el cual se abordan las cuestiones de la Educación en Red y el Aprendizaje en Mundos Virtuales (aprendizaje Inmersivo), que deseamos sea un elemento que complemente a las tareas docentes, de investigación e innovación educativa en la temática del Aprender con apoyo de la mediación pedagógica al incorporar herramientas digitales en la actividad educativa.

Posters for Peace

Posters for Peace  was the final project for students of the May- July 2014 Class. They were supposed to design a poster to promote peace. Some of them worked on their own and some of them worked in groups. All of the posters were posted in their scoops and also in different social networks like Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and also in the virtual world of Second Life.

Students presented their works in class, where they explained how they did their work. They focus on the use of the language and the design techniques they applied in their posters. A group of educators from around the world were invited to comment on the work of the students allowing to get critics on their work.

Dave’s point is that students can supplement the standard writing for teacher only by using Yelp, Rottentomatoes, DearAbby, Yahoo news, PeoplesCourt, Amazon review, and comment sections to communicate their thoughts and feelings about film, food, products, books, news stories, justice, etc. with the whole internet.  This is writing with a real purpose, not just writing as an academic exercise, and it gets students to write because they want to, not because they have to.
