Paikallisuutisten tekijöiden ongelmana on ollut ja on edelleen ammatillisen arvostuksen puute. Valitettavan harva journalisti haluaa pysyä paikallisena ja katseet suuntautuvatkin yhä useammin, siihen, että saavutettaisin "laaja yleisö" joka käytännössä tarkoittaa pyrkimystä saada jutuille.
Tarinoille ja kuville mahdolllisimman laaja valtakunnallinen julkisuus. Paikallisen tai pientä yleisöä kinnostavan sijasta yleisöltä hamutaan mahdollisimman paljon klikkauksia tai Facebook jakoja. Se taas johtaa siihen, että yhä enemmän ja enemmän paikallisesti tärkeitä "peräkylän uutisia" tai "käpykylien ihmisiä" käsitellään vain, jos niistä onnistutaan muokkaamaan "yleinen ilmiö" "kiinnostava kuriositeetti" tai "sydämiä koskettavia kokemuksia"...
