Jackie Gerstein, Ed.D:"All of my classes, regardless of student age or demographics – elementary gifted students or graduate students, begin with ice-breakers and team-building activities. I recently developed a passion for using students’ mobile devices to do so as this devices have become natural and personalized extensions of students’ “selves.”"

Gadgetry and Musicality: Technology enhancing music education

Gadgetry and Musicality: Technology enhancing music education | Mrs Beatons Web Tools 4 U | Scoop.it

There are some useful tips in here. 1. the idea that students explore instruments before they are taught how to play them. 2. the use of graphical score maps to visualise the sound. 3. the use of composition early and used with multimedia

Lachlan Szery's curator insight, May 30, 6:06 AM
Gadgetry and Musicality: Technology enhancing music education provides an interesting use of technology not just specific to music technology but the use of the "Piano Scroll" format provides students with a visual way to interpret sound and time outside of reading sheet music with a metronome.

Boyntons' classroom like many of those closer to home in Australia was faced with financial implications that restricted his ability to effectively implement these software’s and use them to their full potential. At times he found himself having to use his own personal iPad for students to the software in the classroom.

These technologies have the potential to completely redefine learning experiences in classroom music. Boyntons' "Piano Scroll" method of reading music allows those students who have trouble comprehending notated music along with those who learn by ear a resource to learn how to read and record music. This method if utilised addresses the Modification and Redefinition levels of the SAMR model (Schrock, 2013)

I wish this was longer! Great point of discussion; allowing creative thinking (and/or active learning) to drive the music classroom.

I haven't blogged about our iPad journey for a while, so I thought I'd update how it's going, and impart a few of the lessons I've learnt the hard way! Forgive the length of the post, but I thought it was time to get into the nitty-gritty of the learning which occurs when iPads are used so you can follow my thinking, and improve on what I'm doing (and hopefully suggest those improvements to me in a comment at the bottom? Who knows?). And I'll chuck in some cartoons to alleviate the boredom too, how about that?

This is interesting. For students to play at home, or possibly in the classroom. More geared at younger students. But in the middle grades, it might be fun depending on the topic
