How 'Dredd 3D' Represents the Good, the Bad and the Ugly of Modern Action Movies

How 'Dredd 3D' Represents the Good, the Bad and the Ugly of Modern Action Movies | Moving Images | Scoop.it

"Dredd 3D" may present a dreary vision of the future, but it offers a promising encapsulation of the modern action movie. At the same time, director Pete Travis' treatment of the no-nonsense comic book character initially brought to life by Sylvester Stallone in the disposable 1995 adaptation relies on vapid storytelling that's overwhelmingly devoid of imagination. Still, enthusiasts of the genre -- still reeling from another summer of men in tights -- should see this comparatively small-scale effort for the sheer volume of contemporary action movie tropes crammed into one concise, frenetic experience.

Just Posted: Hands-on Canon EOS 6D preview: Digital Photography Review

Just Posted: Hands-on Canon EOS 6D preview: Digital Photography Review | Moving Images | Scoop.it

Just Posted: Our hands-on preview of Canon's enthusiast-grade full frame DSLR, the EOS 6D. The 6D features a newly-developed 20.2MP CMOS sensor and a magnesium alloy body. To distinguish it from the more expensive 5D Mark III, the 6D features a simpler, 11-point AF system with a single cross-type focus sensor. It also features a smaller, 97% coverage viewfinder. What do these, and a handful of other, omissions mean for the 6D and how to it match up to Nikon's D600? Read our hands-on preview to find out.

Review: HP Z1 All-in-One Workstation

Review: HP Z1 All-in-One Workstation | Moving Images | Scoop.it

There are three constants in life—death, taxes, and oversized workstations. Why are workstations so large? They need breathing space for their powerful components, which could overheat if they aren’t cooled properly. As a result, no one had successfully designed an all-in-one workstation.

A Thunderbolt CF Card Reader … and More!

A Thunderbolt CF Card Reader … and More! | Moving Images | Scoop.it

I'll admit I'm a bit off the Thunderbolt radar since I don't own a Thunderbolt-capable machine (though I do have one on loan). But last week I was working with a photographer who was looking into a new Macbook Pro and the question came up about a Thunderbolt CF card reader. A Google search returned a result for the Sonnet Echo ExpressCard Thunderbolt adapter. While not exactly a Thunderbolt CF card reader, it looks like it's capable of a lot more (I also saw this post about another Thunderbolt CF card reader, though you may not want it after reading the review).
