A suggestion for a new Course Format to be included in Moodle 3.3 has been submitted to the Moodle Tracker by none other than Martin Dougiamas. The “Rope Team” Course Format, which seems to have been developed in a hackathon during the Shaping the Future Conference 2017, held this past January in a ski lodge in Alberta, not only piqued the “Moodler’s” interest, but apparently his sense of urgency.

The “Rope Team” course format proposes a team-based structure for content delivery and monitoring. A 16-slide presentation accompanies the proposal. Other possible names for the format include Studygroup or Docendo (from the Latin proverb Docendo Discimus, or “by teaching, we learn.”)

When you click on a link in Moodle, are some of the pages taking longer than they should to finish loading? Frustrating, isn’t it? And you’re not alone. The speed at which pages load is called the Page Load Time (PLT) and is measured in seconds. There are various extensions you can use to measure this, such as the ‘Page load time’ extension in Chrome. I expect my Moodle pages to load in less than two seconds, and not more than three seconds, and I think this is a reasonable expectation. So how do your PLTs compare, and do you know what to do about it if they are not ‘up to speed’?

Bonsoir, Les options de relecture "Pendant la tentative" peuvent être cochées quand on sélectionne comme comportement des questions Feedback immédiat, Interactif avec essai multiples, Mode adaptatif. Mais si on sélectionne Feedback a posteriori, il n'est pas possible de cocher les cases. D'où une nouvelle demande de précision à Eugénie. Quel comportement des questions souhaite-t-elle pour le test ? Christian

The upcoming update to Moodle, version 3.3, may offer an interesting new welcome page, courtesy of the Moodle Users Association. Voted by members of the Moodle Users Association as the project of choice for the 2016-I Development Cycle, “My Course Overview” aims to offer timely information about active courses as soon as students log into Moodle.

The project has been in steady development since July 30th of last year, and finally we can test-drive it on Moodle’s quality control site, at prototype.moodle.net. To access the testing ground, enter the username-password pair s1 – s1 to view from a student’s standpoint, or t1 – t1 from the teacher’s.

Online forums, in all their different iterations, are a hotbed of activity across the internet. From social media and comments sections, to image boards, to more specialized and exclusive venues, forums carry the weight of our minds. The simplicity of use makes it also a perfect target for not so constructive participation, or downright antisocial behavior. Courtesy of the Convergence blog by the library of UC San Francisco, we share some ideas on how to promote best practices and keep disruption at bay to ensure meaningful forum interactions.
Pay attention to the type

Moodle features at least four types of forums: Standard, or the classic take; Single discussion where students can only reply to threads started by teachers; Blog type where the starting post looks like an article with a comments section underneath; or Q&A. Each type affect the kinds of contributions you’ll get from students, so choose carefully.

Damyon Wiese, Development Manager Moodle HQ and the brain behind the development of the Competencies in Moodle has shared a walk through introduction to the Moodle competencies. The presentation delivered during the MoodleMoot Australia 2016 goes through the steps involved in setting up a competency based education framework and learning plan from a standard competency system.

The new feature, which was introduced in Moodle 3.1, brings a new learning management system approach to Moodle. The site administrators can add site wide competency frameworks and learning plan templates for a new level of personalized learning in Moodle. During the presentation Damyon shows a glimpse of the possibilities and flexibility of this system by showing and explaining its use in a real context of higher education.

La version 3.1 de Moodle est accompagnée d'un ensemble de plugins qui peuvent aider l'étudiant à développer certaines compétences (auto-évaluation, sélection de cours, mise en œuvre de portfolio) et l'enseignant favoriser l'acquisition de ces compétences. Il faut à présent que les organismes qui utilisent Moodle choisissent :
- de migrer vers Moodle 3.1 sans trop tarder
- d'implémenter ces plugins après concertation avec les enseignants
