 By residing within inclusive communities, adults with autism will avoid having their personalities shaped by living in an institution. Also, being part of and living in the surrounding community, will lead to new relationships and experiences.

As a society, we need to embrace inclusive community living. Segregation promotes negative attitudes about individuals with disabilities and makes those individuals feel like burdens. Just because someone has limitations does not mean they cannot enjoy life or live within the community. It is time for society to eliminate segregation for individuals with disabilities.

Building more inclusive housing for adults with disabilities, makes perfect sense. Research has proven that community-based service options are cheaper and more efficient. A lot of people within our society need to open their hearts, adjust their views about individuals with disabilities, and embrace it as a unique part of diversity.
