In a generation where girls are bombarded with ‘jokes’ and memes telling them to “Get back in the kitchen and make [men] a sandwich” it’s hardly surprising that there are STILL preconceived stereotypes about girls taking up a SET subject. And, OK, so we’re hardly thought of as Stepford Wives any more, but I still think it’s ridiculous how ignorant  people can be about the amazing things that women have contributed to SET. (Don’t worry, I’m not going to have a long feminist rant!)

Science and law might seem at opposite ends of the career spectrum – they certainly did when I was at school. In sixth form I had two friends who wanted to do law at university, and it seemed like they were heading into a completely different world from me. They took different A-levels, applied to different unis and even had different free periods so I hardly ever saw them! However, recently I’ve realised that there are careers that have elements of both science and law, so I decided to investigate the options.

Do You Have to be an Engineer to be an Engineer? | MindSET | Scoop.it

Nowadays you either need to go down an apprenticeship route or gain a university degree to be known as an engineer but If I were to graduate with an MEng (masters in engineering) then decided to work as a doctor, having not done anything within the engineering field, would I really be an engineer?
