Could Architecture of the Future in Some Ways be Alive? Interview with Philip Beesley | Extreme Architecture | News, E-learning, Architecture of the future at news.arcilook.com | TransArchitecture. Metamorphosis, transmorphosis, allomorphosis. | Scoop.it

This video shows an interview with Philip Beesley who is an associate professor in the School of Architecture, University of Waterloo, where he creates immersive, responsive environments. His work is widely cited as a pioneer in the rapidly expanding technology of responsive architecture. His projects feature interactive kinetic systems that use dense arrays of microprocessors, sensors and actuator systems arranged within lightweight ‘textile’ structures. These environments pursue distributed emotional consciousness within synthetic and near-living systems. Beesley’s work is widely published and exhibited, and has been distinguished by awards including VIDA 11.0 and FEIDAD, and by the Prix de Rome in Architecture (Canada). He was educated in Visual Art at Queen’s University, in Technology at Humber College, and in Architecture at the University of Toronto. During the interview, Beesley explains how architecture of the future could be alive in some ways. He also discuss ‘Hylozoic Series: Sibyl’ his installation for the 18th Biennale of Sydney.

The Digital Sublime | The MIT Press

The Digital Sublime | The MIT Press | TransArchitecture. Metamorphosis, transmorphosis, allomorphosis. | Scoop.it

The digital era promises, as did many other technological   developments before it, the transformation of society: with the   computer, we can transcend time, space, and politics-as-usual. In   The Digital Sublime, Vincent Mosco goes beyond the usual stories of technological breakthrough and economic meltdown to explore the myths constructed around the new digital technology and why we feel compelled to believe in them. He tells us that what kept   enthusiastic investors in the dotcom era bidding up stocks even   after the crash had begun was not willful ignorance of the laws of   economics but belief in the myth that cyberspace was opening up a   new world.

ACADIA | TransArchitecture. Metamorphosis, transmorphosis, allomorphosis. | Scoop.it

Philip Beesely and Skylar Tibbits are two of the most prolific and innovative members of our community. Although quite different in material artifacts and effects, their work shares certain parallel fascinations with the relationships between computation, near-living systems, and component assemblies. Philip and Skylar both have thriving experimental practices of architecture (see more at philipbeesleyarchitect.com and sjet.us, respectively) and have contributed greatly to the ACADIA community. As the inaugural Feature for the new ACADIA website, I asked Philip and Skylar to discussion their work through an informal conversation. The conversation below took place on May 24, 2012.

Artificial Nature is a research project and an evolving art installation by Haru Ji and Graham Wakefield. The installation is a programmed, self-sustaining, digital ecosystem as an immersive environment, with organisms that consume, grow, metabolize, reproduce and respond to activities within an endless fluid environment. An artificial nature is not a simulation however, it is a new realm with its own logic, life forms and relational dynamics.

Actuel/virtuel : Introduction a une problématique architecturale | DNArchiDNArchi | TransArchitecture. Metamorphosis, transmorphosis, allomorphosis. | Scoop.it
