Bad moods are contagious and make it less likely that others will respond empathetically to us (because our bad moods rubs on them and one in bad mood doesn't empathize well)

There is a tacit assumption imbedded within this premise, however: that time is a commodity that, itself, can be shrunken and truncated without consequence.
