Crusades

Crusades | Medival Times Newspaper | Scoop.it

I am a christian knight. I am here first hand witnessing the firsof the crusades. There are some great leaders here with us. Such as William the Conquerors eldest son. We are being called "Franks" by our Muslim foes due to the great number of recruits from france and many other countries. W e have some great leaders with however we don't have any Generals or Commanders to tell us where and when we should go. We just set out to constantinople on our own routes and at our own time. When we finally reached our destination of the city of Jerusalam, we were about one-fourth of our orginal number of men. Before attacking the city we took off our shoes and sang: "Jerusalam, lift up thine eyes, and behold the liberator who comes to break thy chains." After the first attack we thought we were absolutly unstoppable, but soon realized we could be beat after not winning even one more crusade. It might just be the feeling of defeat talking but the was no need for those silly crusades.
