Great Content Curation Models: E-learning Examples by David Anderson

Great Content Curation Models: E-learning Examples by David Anderson | Content serendipity | Scoop.it

If you are looking for inspiration when it comes to content curation, here is a great example at work.

ElearningExamples is a curated collection of "examples" from the real world of online communications in the areas of "multimedia journalism", "infographics" and "html5" among others.

For each one of these categories the author has written and edited a specific information card containing relevant information, images and links to the work being referenced.

The design of the site and the quality of the work "examples" being showcased make this a good example of what good "content curation" is.

Clearly, the work produced by this site, produces no noise or regurgitation of information, but rather offers a better way to make sense and discover the communication areas being curated on the site.

Thanks to David Anderson, an e-learning designer & community manager at Articulate for having created this excellent curated set of galleries.

Inspiring. 9/10

YouTube reinvents itself with massive relaunch focusing more on filtering and curation | GigaOM

YouTube reinvents itself with massive relaunch focusing more on filtering and curation | GigaOM | Content serendipity | Scoop.it

YouTube is rolling out one of its most ambitious redesigns since its launch in 2006 this Thursday afternoon, putting channels front and center in an attempt to become the Internet’s answer to cable TV.

The new design features a completely revamped home page that focuses on a user’s video subscriptions and pulls in video recommendations from social networks like Facebook and Google+.

The pages of video publishers are also getting a significant face lift, emphasizing the notion of subscribing to channels and focusing more on filtering and curation. “Curators are going to be be really great for organizing this massive amount of content that YouTube has”.

Some of the highlights of the new design include:

- The overall design is closely aligned with the visual changes on other Google properties, including Google+ and GMail.
- The home page features a kind of activity stream that includes video uploads, likes and favorites, comments as well as announcements for upcoming live events.
- Users can pin up to ten of their favorite channels on YouTube’s homepage...

- Registered users will be able to choose from four default templates for their own channel pages...

Search and Discovery: How They Complement Each Other

Search and Discovery: How They Complement Each Other | Content serendipity | Scoop.it

The overload of information on the Web is challenging the monopoly over the consumption of online information using search engines. A new breed of tools, content discovery engines, is gaining traction to complement search engines.

The main differences between search and discovery are related to:

- User's goal: an-answer vs awareness
- Occurrence: one-time vs ongoing
- Type of content: popularity vs freshness
- Selection process: algorithm vs user
- Nature of findings: expected vs unexpected

Why Curation Time Has Come [Presentation]

A good presentation deck by Qianxing Lu and Brian Moritz for their Social Media Theory and Practice assignment.

In 30 slides there is a well laid-out synthesis of why a growing set of new curation start-ups have decided to focus on developing their own curation-filtering tool.

Simple, clear and well presented concepts.

Good synthesis. 8/10

McKinsey Curates Five Years of Survey Results with a Cool Interactive Data Explorer

McKinsey Curates Five Years of Survey Results with a Cool Interactive Data Explorer | Content serendipity | Scoop.it

MicKinsey has published a wonderfully curated selection of data from five of surveys about business and web 2.0.

The curated data is accessible through a highly visual and interactive data explorer, which allows you to easily navigate the data you are interested in the most.

The curated data includes useful information about what technologies and tools companies view as most important to what kind of investments, if any, organizations plan to make in Web 2.0 in the future.

In addition, this curated data collection examines the business use of 12 technologies and tools:

blogs, mash-ups (a Web application that combines multiple sources of data into a single tool), microblogging, peer to peer, podcasts, prediction markets, rating, RSS (Really Simple Syndication), social networking, tagging, video sharing, and wikis.

Using the interactive, you can track the performance of each technology through the years or customize the view to compare particular technologies side by side.

To access the interactive data explorer you need to freely register with McKinsey, and then cick here:
