A recent "Best Practice Update" in the medical journal Gastroenterology recommends that gastroenterologists incorporate brain-gut psychotherapies into routine gastrointestinal (GI) care. The article provides guidance about how physicians can talk to patients about how the brain and gut are intimately connected. CHICAGO - Three members of Chicago-based metaMe Health’s Science Advisory Board co-authored a first-of-its-kind “Best Practice Update” for Psycho-gastroenterology in the January issue of the medical journal Gastroenterology. In the article, Dr. Laurie Keefer, Dr. Olafur Palsson, and Dr. John Pandolfino point to evidence showing that chronic digestive diseases, including irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), cannot be disentangled from their psychological context. They recommend that gastroenterologists incorporate brain-gut psychotherapies into routine gastrointestinal (GI) care. The article provides guidance about how physicians can talk to patients about how the brain and gut are intimately connected. According to the report, researchers have learned that the brain and the gut are much more closely connected than was previously thought. The brain plays a big role in keeping the functioning of the gut healthy. Here, the term “gut” refers to the entire digestive tract. Unfortunately, this normal brain-gut communication can sometimes go wrong when something disturbs the brain or the nervous system for an extended time, such as substantial life stress, strong negative emotions, or inadequate sleep. Brain-gut therapy delivered by mental health professionals specializing in Psycho-gastroenterology is effective because it focuses specifically on the downregulation of unpleasant GI sensations, decreasing avoidance behaviors associated with fear of symptoms, and building coping and resilience to stress or lifestyle changes imposed by a chronic condition like IBS. This is the first report that outlines Psycho-gastroenterology directly to physicians, and Dr. Keefer is excited to help spread the word about the article’s two main points. First, brain-gut psychotherapies are targeted at unpleasant GI symptoms and quality-of-life, and should be incorporated into patient care early and often. Second, clinicians should be ready to assess the need for brain-gut therapy, and refer suitable patients to therapy in a way that reduces stigma and increases follow-through. Dr. Keefer thinks that new approaches to delivering brain-gut therapy will bridge the gap for patients seeking out such services. “There are some exciting new ways to deliver therapy, including web-based telehealth and fully digital therapeutics,” said Dr. Keefer. “These approaches can be very effective while eliminating visits to a therapist office and reducing cost to the patient.” metaMe Health is one example of a group that provides brain-gut psychotherapy in a new and unique way. Ampu Wear Clothing, Inc.’s designs will include hidden zippers, velcro enclosures, reinforcement patches and more. Malone’s life was changed forever in 2014, when a semi tractor-trailer on the side of the road rolled back on his leg. Enduring over 27 surgeries in desperate attempts to salvage his lower limb, Malone was left with little to no choice and made the courageous decision to have his leg amputated. After a chance meeting of the minds, Malone & longtime friend Paul D. Jones, came up with the idea of designing “a user-friendly” clothing line. Jones, a multi-million dollar businessman, celebrated author, and philanthropist, incidentally learned that after tragedy struck, Troy had notably begun to design his own clothes. At press time, Malone recall’s partnering with a local tailor to custom design his wedding day attire. Troy designed a $6,000 tuxedo that would seamlessly hide the openings in his pants to accommodate his new prosthetic leg. Inspired to help others and with the encouragement of his wife, Troy co-designed Ampu Wear Clothing, Inc.’s new collection to become a viable brand for people living with disabilities that are discouraged by the limited options available in the retail sector. Ampu Wear will be sold through e-tailers and select brick & mortar shops across the globe. Designs will retail between $20 and $400, depending on the items. The business duo has plans to release two collections annually.

Leveraging the latest cutting edge technology, au Future Stadium offered au VR seats where supporters can root for their team while viewing VR footage along with the live action, and au/4D Replay, which offers customizable replays from the roughly 100 cameras around the stadium. Open to all au service subscribers, 100 people were selected for the au VR seats. Lucky winners were provided VR goggles that gave them access to VR footage. One person who participated commented, “The players look like they’re right here!”, while another said, “The reality is stunning. I want more angles!” au/4D Replay allowed fans to select replays in real-time while also showing the matches intricate details angles not available from their seats. This footage was also posted on the au Blue Challenge web site. au Dynamic Replay, which allows users to select the angles and positions where they’d like to view, will be posted on online sports media Sports Bull’s web site (https://sportsbull.jp/). This initiative, using entirely new technology, processes images taken from several cameras around the stadium to produce a lifelike recreation of certain plays and scenes. Additionally, au Future Stadium featured the au Stats Award, which rewards players based on in-game statistics. Specifically, this focuses on the players with the most Duels (made up of the number of dribbles and tackles, aerial duels won and fouls received). Team duels were also tallied and the captains of the South Korean men’s and women’s teams were awarded trophies after the match.

Originally called Roha, the site was renamed for King Lalibela of the Zagwe dynasty who commissioned the construction of the churches in the 12th century to be a “New Jerusalem.” Lalibela is a revered site in Ethiopian Christianity. It remains a living heritage and draws thousands of worshippers and tourists each year. Lit Up Lalibela is designed by Ethiopians and provides a reminder of the world’s interconnected history. The Prince attended the opening of the Terrence Higgins Trust (THT) shop in Hackney, East London, on Wednesday November 15 to officially launch the start of National HIV Testing Week, which the charity coordinated on behalf of HIV Prevention England. During the visit, Prince Harry watched a live demonstration of the THT self-test kit, and spoke to some of the shop’s volunteers, one of whom was recently diagnosed with HIV after using a self-test kit and is now receiving treatment. His Royal Highness helped volunteers hand out self-test kits from behind the counter, before seeing how at risk groups are engaging with the National HIV Testing Week campaign in the pop-up’s ‘social media zone’. National HIV Testing Week, which will run from 18th – 25th November, aims to increase awareness and acceptance of HIV testing, by dispelling the stigma that surrounds the disease. The week, which promotes the benefits of regular testing and treatment, also raises the importance of increasing opportunities to test – be it in clinical settings, in primary care, through community-based rapid testing or via postal testing – in order to improve early diagnosis and treatment of HIV, thus reducing onward transmission. The ultimate goal is to increase regular HIV testing in the most affected groups. Self-testing is an innovative, new way for people to learn their HIV status quickly, easily and within the privacy of one’s own space, be it in a kitchen, bathroom, car or office. In celebration of International Tea Day on December 15, Suzhou Tourism created an interactive holiday teahouse pop-up from Thursday, December 14 to Saturday, December 16 at The Shops at Columbus Circle in New York City. Inside the Suzhou-style teahouse, tea experts from Tea Drunk, a New York City-based purveyor of some of the world’s most prized tea, served the destination’s famed Biluochun green tea to media, influencers, key opinion leaders, travel agents, tour operators, and consumers. November 20, 2017, UK- Prince Harry launched this year’s National HIV Testing Week, attending the opening of the Terrence Higgins Trust (THT) shop in Hackney, East London, on Wednesday November 15 to officially launch the start of National HIV Testing Week, which the charity coordinated on behalf of HIV Prevention England. During the visit, Prince Harry watched a live demonstration of the THT self-test kit, and spoke to some of the shop’s volunteers, one of whom was recently diagnosed with HIV after using a self-test kit and is now receiving treatment. National HIV Testing Week, which runs from 18th – 25th November, aims to increase awareness and acceptance of HIV testing within the most affected groups, by dispelling the stigma that surrounds the disease. The week, which promotes the benefits of regular testing and treatment for both the individual and the community, also raises the importance of increasing opportunities to test – be it in clinical settings, in primary care, through community-based rapid testing or via postal testing – in order to improve early diagnosis and treatment of HIV, thus reducing onward transmission. THT’s new pop-up shop in Hackney, which opened today, provides an accessible space where people can come to access free information and advice about HIV/AIDS, and learn about HIV self-testing as one option to learn their status. Self-testing is an innovative new way to reach those impacted by HIV and wouldn’t otherwise get tested.
