Math and the Movies Resource List

Math and the Movies Resource List | Math Connections | Scoop.it

Movie Clip Descriptions and Worksheets

Throughout our years of teaching we have used (and continue to use) movie clips in our classrooms to enhance content and engage our students.  This listing is a sample of the types of movies we find useful.  The accompanying worksheets are our mathematical interpretations and applications of information presented in these clips.  Obviously, other interpretations are also possible.  These materials were designed to enhance content across the secondary and post-secondary mathematics curricula.  Our personal "mathematical" movie library contains purchased copies, in either VHS or DVD format, of all of the movies mentioned here.

Integration of Math:

Students need to learn that math is embedded in almost everything we do. Whether it's architecture, accounting, baking, etc. math is seen on a daily basis. Intertwining subjects within school is of the upmost importance. Students see math as daunting and dull when it is strictly textbook related but when it is integrated within other subjects it seems less "mathy" and more appealing.
