So folks, how do these effect the future of education?  With more and more data connected devices, what do we look at with that ability?   I can some some real use for smarter - dollars that can be used for students.  They're calling this a 2020 list, that's only three years.  We don't generally get on the bandwagon until well after business and industry have.  I think it provides some food for thought.

According to the renowned American educator, Malcolm Knowles there are 5 assumptions concerning the characteristics of adult learners, and 4 principles concerning adult learning (andragogy). Despite the fact that Knowles' adult learning theory assumptions and principles were introduced in the 1980's, each can be utilized today to help eLearning professionals create more meaningful learning experiences for adult learners.

Phil Hobrla's curator insight, March 16, 2015 8:09 PM

In order for adult learners to be actively involved in their own learning, they must feel (and know) that they have a voice in regards to the content and delivery of their coursework. The degree to which learners determine how a course will play out is, of course, the prerogative of the instructor, but I think instructors who actively gauge the preparedness and receptivity of their adult learners are liable to get ones who are more engaged and grateful.

Jennifer Kleiner's curator insight, March 16, 2015 8:13 PM

Scooped from Amos's Scoop.it page- Adult learning theory is very important to keep in mind when designing learning strategies for adult education. This is a very helpful resource to easily reference when designing instruction, in particular I would highlight the PURPOSE behind each module and activity and remembering that motivation is key with adult learners.

Samantha Patterson 7's curator insight, March 16, 2015 9:05 PM

This is a good article about adult learning with eLearning. It provides information about Knowles' 5 adult learning theory assumptions that can be translated to modern day eLearning experiences.

10 Emaciated Terms That Keep Education In A Box

10 Emaciated Terms That Keep Education In A Box | Наука об информации культуре граждан | Scoop.it

Do words hold us back? Do they have the potential to keep us in place rather than allowing us to move forward? This post looks at ten words and discusses how each may "influence our behavior and keep us in a box." The ten words are:

1. Lesson

2. Knowledge

3. Rigor

4. Soft Skills

5. High & Low Students

6. 0ff-Task

7. Learning Styles

8. Summer Learning Loss

9. Special Education

10. Brain-Based Learning

Below is an example of how one of these words is explained.

What do you think of when you hear the word off-task? What does research tell us about six-year olds and their ability to focus on one task? The explanation shares that young students who have more time for play also have higher executive functioning skills, yet in the classroom we ask them to sit and to focus one area. In many schools the amount of time for free play and recess has decreased so we can focus on ELA and math.

Learn more about these words and see if you agree with the author. Do you think these words are holding us back?

Five Laws of Media and Information Literacy (MIL) | #UNESCO #ModernEDU #Infographic | Наука об информации культуре граждан | Scoop.it

Empowerment of people through Media and Information Literacy (MIL) is an important prerequisite for fostering equitable access to information and knowledge and promoting free, independent and pluralistic media and information systems.

Media and Information Literacy recognizes the primary role of information and media in our everyday lives. It lies at the core of freedom of expression and information - since it empowers citizens to understand the functions of media and other information providers, to critically evaluate their content, and to make informed decisions as users and producer of information and media content.

Five models for making sense of Complex Systems

Five models for making sense of Complex Systems | Наука об информации культуре граждан | Scoop.it

First, let me say I’m a big fan of this model of models by Scott Berinato, author of Good Charts. The five models we are about to explore are exploratory/conceptual or exploratory/declarative models (or maps or diagrams.) That means they are based in IDEAS not DATA.

These five are particularly useful for understanding complex systems. This seems more important every day, as we are all complexifying things full time.

The first two diagrams are exploratory, i.e. for ordering your thinking. You can do this alone, or with your team.
