Danielle Mcnae's curator insight, September 26, 2013 5:52 PM

This article views how consumers buy brand benefits over brand features. Consumers purchase products that enrich our positive senses and self esteem, this article shows how consumers are more likely to purchase a product due to the positive feelings or emotions that the have linked to a product or service. Consumers are likely to purchase a Mercedes for a need for recognition, or an alarm to feel safe and secure.

As a marketing student I agree, and can relate to purchasing products to receive emotional payoff. There’s nothing better than going shopping for new shoes despite having many pairs that all have the same functional benefits. It all falls down to purchasing them to feel the positive emotional benefits of owning something new.

Rebecca Taylor's comment, September 26, 2013 6:30 PM
Completely agree with your insight Danielle, it is so important that brands use the brand benefits at the core of their marketing strategy. People will always make purchases based on benefits and it is about the companies selling something more than just the product, they want to buy loyalty. A good example is Coca-Cola which is that all they are really selling is fizzy water, but they instead sell "open happiness".

I agree with your insight Danielle, the main reason we make purchases are for the emotional satisfaction. There's nothing like going shopping when you're feeling over stressed! I think another example is Pandora who sell 'unforgettable moments.' This targets the emotions of consumers and also provides them with an emotional benefit - a product which provides remembrance of a special moment in their lives.
