One of the things I've most appreciated about the MOOCs I've participated in is the work faculty and providers have done to make quality resources available free. It certainly makes a big difference in affordable learning.

5 Great eLearning Boredom Busters

5 Great eLearning Boredom Busters | marked for sharing | Scoop.it

A common refrain heard by eLearning program developers is that using eLearning software is boring. Often, learners find using many eLearning programs to be dull and passive activity, making them unlikely to retain the information the programs offer. As developers clearly want to create successful eLearning programs, they incorporate features intended to make the program more interactive and less dull. Colorful graphics, animations and video, quizzes, drag-and-drop content, and other features are used prominently to make the learner feel more engaged with the content. So why don't they work? Start by focusing on the learning experience rather than on content presentation...sometimes that's all it takes to get learners engaged.

Read carefully through this list of things to do to avoid boring eLearning courses that will ensure you to be a hit with your eLearning audience.

First of all, we need to recognize that completion rates for MOOCs really have a different meaning than those for regular university courses. This is mainly because of the differing level of investment the students make from the start.

UNESCO Office in Bangkok: SimAULA: Training our teachers through innovative methodologies based in serious games

UNESCO Office in Bangkok: SimAULA: Training our teachers through innovative methodologies based in serious games | marked for sharing | Scoop.it

SimAULA is a European Lifelong Learning Programme project aimed at offering a virtual medium for initial and lifelong teacher training. The project’s originality lies in the tool that its participants have designed, a simulation of the serious game variety which enables users (teachers in training, in this case) to put their skills into practice in an environment that faithfully recreates the reality of teaching. Additionally, as a simulation, SimAULA makes it possible to avoid the negative consequences that teachers’ actions could have in the context of a real classroom. Possibilities for SimAULA’s future development include enabling users to customise teaching scenarios, so that classroom activities can be steered towards work related to different values or ethical or social issues of interest within a given curriculum.

Web 2.0 e-Publishing Tools: A Quick Guide

Web 2.0 e-Publishing Tools: A Quick Guide | marked for sharing | Scoop.it
Wouldn't it be nice if there was a resource that explained, in detail, everything you needed to know about e-publishing: what tools were available, how to sign up, getting started, etc.?

There are a lot of great publishing tools out there today, and many can save you a lot of time.  Publishing electronically can be easy and affordable for teachers and students alike, and there is a certain level of accomplishment that a student will feel when they see their works published.

Personally, I'm an avid user of many different platforms for e-publishing.  Whether looking for a place to share your own ideas, or providing a place for your students to safely share theirs, there is a growing market of e-Publishing tools that can help.  On some of these tools we might have varying levels of expertise, but even with some experience I still find on occasion that I may need to use a function that I am a novice at, or will get stuck.  No need to panic - I've got my trusty Web 2.0 quick guide, which can help me sort out the new tool in a snap.
