Marc Jacobs Trades Social Media Mentions For Gifts In New Pop Up Store | Management Info Systems | Scoop.it
I gave up, a long time ago, trying to chronicle every competitive move made by the various factions in the brick-and-mortar versus e-commerce retailing wars. GAP annual reports 2006

2006 Annual Report
Ben de Witte's insight:

Page 34 gives us a view on how the company did the same years (37 years)after being opened as Inditex. The net income was 1.1 billion and with the addition of inflation rates we can come to the conclusion that GAP was actually gathering a stronger income in the life span of the company. The difference in years that the company started also is not quite comparing apples to apples because over half a decade leads to many changes in technologies, ones that GAP has refused to abide with.

If you feel like Facebook has more ads than usual, you aren't imagining it: Facebook's been inundating us with more and more ads lately, and using your information—both online and offline—to do it. Here's how it works, and how you can opt out.
Ben de Witte's insight:

For companies like Facebook, the increase in number of users directly translates to an increase in revenue. So much money is being "thrown" around but is this virtual enterprise really consisting of the amount of capital that these different businesses are willing to expend on the simple superstition this MAY become worth something. The stock market is what will have to decide for us and it is a scary time to invest. Guess there is only one way to make it big so stick your neck out far enough for that guillotine if you dare.

Netflix’s secret weapon in the net neutrality fight | WashPost.com

Netflix’s secret weapon in the net neutrality fight | WashPost.com | Management Info Systems | Scoop.it

People generally think of Netflix as a potential loser in the recent court decision overturning the government's network neutrality regulations. But on Wednesday, the company flexed its muscles in an unmistakable show of corporate power meant for Internet providers.

In a letter to investors, Netflix CEO Reed Hastings and CFO David Wells warned that if broadband providers start charging a toll for reaching U.S. Internet subscribers, Netflix and its users would revolt.

"Were this draconian scenario to unfold with some ISP [Internet service provider], we would vigorously protest and encourage our members to demand the open Internet they are paying their ISP to deliver," Hastings and Wells wrote.

That doesn't appear to be an empty threat; in the same letter Wednesday, Netflix announced its paying customer base had grown to more than 34 million Americans, a 23-percent increase compared with the same period last year. Netflix currently accounts for nearly a third of all U.S. Internet traffic during peak hours, according to third-party studies.

Having tried the stick, Netflix then offered the carrot, suggesting that Netflix drives business toward broadband providers — and cooperation would be in the ISPs' interest.
