The Two Sides of Servant Leadership

The Two Sides of Servant Leadership | Managing Rationally | Scoop.it

When people hear the phrase servant leadership, they are often confused. These folks think you can’t lead and serve at the same time. New Research Shows Employers Themselves are to Blame for Widespread Talent Shortage

New Research Shows Employers Themselves are to Blame for Widespread Talent Shortage | Managing Rationally | Scoop.it

"Companies will need to change their practices, particularly by rebuilding HR budgets for training, changing corporate culture to promote from within, and allow flexible work options," the report's authors write. "Our findings suggest that companies that have been recently focused on short-term needs are beginning to see that these bigger challenges require a long-term plan."

Via Dave Guerra (Author)
Wally Stump's insight:
Promoting, and developing internal candidates allows people to learn new roles, improves retention, and increases employee engagement while reducing recruiting costs in the long run. An overreliance on hiring external candidates is a symptom of the kind of short term thinking in which employee development is regarded more as an expense than as an opportunity.

Use Mirroring to Connect With Others

Use Mirroring to Connect With Others | Managing Rationally | Scoop.it
Using the same gestures, posture or tone as someone else can create a connection and help with networking, negotiating or just make conversations go smoothly.
Wally Stump's insight:
Is our posture guided by our subconscious when engaged in conversation, or can we really make a better impression by using posture to enhance our message? Perhaps a better approach to this is to relax and focus on connecting through conversation and let the rest take care of Itself. I would wager that we would find ourselves mirroring our partner subconsciously anyway.

Using Data to Strengthen Your Connections to Customers

Frontline managers hold unexpected insights.
