The Straight Dope: What's the story on the curse of Macbeth?

 Throughout history historian have studied and are confused that Shakespear's play, MacBeth, had aquired a supernatural curse.The curse is that when you say,"Macbeth", bad things will happen. People in the theater industry that beleive in the supernatural have actually refused to use the name when practicing the play. Some alternate words for the play are, the scottish play, Mackers, the scottish buisiness, or The Gladis Comedy. There are two parts to the curse. The first one is that bad luck will happen to the play be put on, the second is that the bad luck will then come on the people who are performing the play. King James I of England was believed greatly in the supernatural and banned the play from England. In the first production of the play in 1606 the person playing lady Macbeth became feverish and died backstage. In 1672 in AmesterdamIn a 1672 production in Amsterdam, the actor playing Macbeth substituted a real dagger for the fake stage dagger and killed the actor playing Duncan.On the opening day of a London play in 1703, England was hit with one of the most violent storms in its history. The documented bad luck of the play comtinued until 2001. The play has been a frontline for supernaturalists and all types of historians.

In Macbeth Shakespeare is using the witches to represent the controversy over weither of human's lives are based off of their choices or if they are already planned and will happen no matter what. The witches made predictions about Macbeth when these predictions were achieved Macbeth question what was going to happen in the future and if the universe knew that it would happen. The witches show that some characters represent both sides of this idea, and shakespeare wanted his audience to become aware and discuss which charcters had control and whose lives were pre-destained.
