Land of riches given over to Kakadu

Land of riches given over to Kakadu | M.A.P.S. | Scoop.it

THE World Heritage-listed Kakadu National Park will be expanded to include thousands of hectares of ecologically sensitive land that has uranium worth billions of dollars.

Aboriginal traditional owner Jeffrey Lee has offered the land to the federal government so it can become part of Kakadu, where he works as a ranger.

Mr Lee, the sole member of the Djok clan and senior custodian of the land known as Koongarra, could have become one of Australia's richest men if he had allowed the French energy giant Areva to extract 14,000 tonnes of uranium from its mineral lease in the area.

Mr Lee is an extremely shy and humble man who shuns publicity. "I'm not interested in money. I've got a job. I can buy tucker; I can go fishing and hunting. That's all that matters to me," he told The Age in a rare interview in 2007.

"Most businesses and professionals struggle to simply create one relevant newsletter per month,” said Guillaume Decugis, CEO and co-founder of Scoop.it in a press release. “Add newsletter design, copywriting, copyediting, and form editing to this and professionals are met with the very challenging problem of a time and resource-intensive process. Curating and publishing engaging content is a solution that offers a way to enrich newsletters in an efficient and impactful way."

MailChimp already works with a number of other sites and apps to give their email marketing expertise including Facebook, Twitter, Hootsuite, Pinterest and more.

Toé, the 'Witchcraft Plant' That's Spoiling Ayahuasca Tourism

Toé, the 'Witchcraft Plant' That's Spoiling Ayahuasca Tourism | M.A.P.S. | Scoop.it

In other words, when giddy 20- and 30-somethings from Brooklyn descend upon Iquitos, Peru--which is seeing an uptick in ayahuasca tourism--it's becoming more and more likely that they'll be whisked away to lodges run by pervy, crash-coursed ayahuasqueros out to make a quick buck on unassuming tourists. And boy are unassuming tourists descending upon the largest city in the Peruvian rain forest: Hearn cites an unconfirmed stat "floating around Iquitos" that puts the influx of pilgrims as having increased fivefold over the last two years. Fivefold. As Roger Rumrill,  a journalist and Amazon expert who's written 25 books on the region, told Hearn, there's "a corresponding boom in charlatans – in fake shamans, who are targeting foreigners."
