Reflections on three years of the UK OER Programmes

This book is not intended as a beginners guide or a technical manual, instead it is an expert synthesis of the key technical issues arising from a national publicly-funded programme. It is intended for people working with technology to support the creation, management, dissemination and tracking of open educational resources, and particularly those who design digital infrastructure and services at institutional and national level.

Did I mention you should stop what you're doing and read/download this ebook?

Summary of CETIS's work on technology for/ around/ about open educational resources. A state of the art introduction to, overview of, and reflection on the technology related questions encountered in three years of working with Open Educational Resource initiatives in the UK.

(Disclosure - I worked for CETIS during the programs, on many of these questions, with these folk, so I may not be totally neutral...)

First World War roadshow rolls in | LTG Weekly Roundup | Scoop.it

On the 3rd of November, members from the LTG supported our Europeana 1914-1918 project at the World War I Banbury Remembrance Roadshow. During the day members of the public brought in family heirlooms from the First World War and had their stories recorded. Members of our digitisting team then photographed the objects to go into the pan-Europeana 1914-1918 web archive. See a video of the roadshow at: You can add your own story at http://www.europeana1914-1918.eu/en.

LTG is now a part of 'IT Services'

LTG is now a part of 'IT Services' | LTG Weekly Roundup | Scoop.it

IT Services was formed on 1 August 2012 from a merger of the three central IT departments - BSP (Business Services and Projects), ICTST (ICT Support Team), and OUCS (Oxford University Computing Services). We are committed to carrying forward the best of the values of service and delivery of these three departments, with a new vision of partnership, responsiveness and strategic innovation.

It will take at least a year before the process of integrating the three central IT departments is fully achieved. In the meantime, please continue to use your local IT support and current contacts for help with ongoing programmes and services.

Janet Burstall's curator insight, March 4, 2013 7:38 PM

"There are currently no ‘MOOCs’ at Oxford University but there are many existing innovations which could be brought together as an exciting digital presence for the University." - i.e. there is much that is open and online at Oxford University. Perhaps it will prove to be like MIT OpenCourseware preceeding MITx. One or two examples have communities embedded in them, so cMOOC-like, but generally it looks more xMOOC/ content based than networked and social.

LTG Open Education Projects in the Press

LTG Open Education Projects in the Press | LTG Weekly Roundup | Scoop.it

The past week has seen excellent publicity for two of LTG's Open Education projects.

The Europeana 1914-1918 project has appeared in over 20 press articles detailing stories of incredible finds at its World War I family history roadshows, including a badly spelt postcard sent from a young Adolf Hitler. The initiative to capture the War memories and artefacts of Europe has been on the front page of BBC News, on the Radio 4 Today Programme, Daily Mail, Telegraph and Huffington Post.

The Great Writers Inspire project has also been featured on the front of iTunesU, once again highlighting the high quality resources that the University makes available under its Open Spires initiative.

Materials from both projects are available under Creative Commons licences for all to reuse and share.
