Solid Angle has been busy creating an amazing renderer called Arnold  for the last 16 years it has been put into  the production pipeline of Sony Imageworks as it’s renderer and into their Katana lighting / look development pipeline software.  First feature film was Sony’s ” Monster House” and every movie since has used it.

Marco Farjardo the software’s creator has been busy since then creating it for different software implementations  as plug – ins for Softimage , Maya, Lightwave and Houdini.  It has been put in many companies pipelines like Sony Imageworks, Framestore , Mill, Psyop, Mr X , Jellyfish, Mirkos Image, Glassworks and many others.  Here is there newest showreel for 2013 …..

For info on Arnold there is a great article on FXguide called ” The Art of  Rendering” where it gives you the history of Arnold and just about every renderer that is out. http://www.fxguide.com/featured/the-art-of-rendering/

‘House Of Cards’ Is Now On Netflix; Watch David Fincher’s Pilot Even If You Aren’t A Subscriber

‘House Of Cards’ Is Now On Netflix; Watch David Fincher’s Pilot Even If You Aren’t A Subscriber | Indie Lounge | Scoop.it

Netflix has a lot invested in House of Cards, the political drama starring Kevin Spacey. The show which marks the company’s first major foray into original programming. Though they’ve already done some original shows (such as the co-production Lillyhammer), the rental and streaming company spent millions and millions on this remake of a BBC miniseries, outbidding several cable channels and networks. Today, House of Cards finally hits the service with all 13 episodes available for your viewing pleasure.

Carlos Phoenix's insight:

Just a demonstration of how the future of entertainment is going to look like.  no cable tv, no satalite. Its can now be taken by independant film makers and web series. But this also means, indie producers have to be on their "A" Game. So here is to the future. Hopefully The Lounge Network is here to stay.  But till we get bigger, check out the rest of the article in Slash Film.

Indian American director's thriller gets 8 festival nomination.

Washington, July 27 — "9 Eleven", a Bollywood-style thriller by an Indian American director, has been nominated for a record eight awards at the 2012 World Music & International Film Festival.

Recognized for its approach of demonstrating the effects of terrorism with a small group of people, the movie is fast paced and gets to the core of fear.

"A fast paced thriller with undertones of terrorism, the film poses the question how does one survive collectively in meeting the growing phenomenon of terrorism head on. Written and directed by Manan Singh Katohora, "9 Eleven" portrays the life of 11 people terrorised to the core by an unknown entity in an unfamiliar place."

The film sounds very exciting, we hope it reaches a film festival near you, as it is getting recognition in a variety of festivals.

Third 'Hobbit' movie may be coming from Peter Jackson - Los Angeles Times

Third 'Hobbit' movie may be coming from Peter Jackson - Los Angeles Times | Indie Lounge | Scoop.it
Third 'Hobbit' movie may be coming from Peter Jackson Los Angeles Times Independent studio Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer controls 50% of the film rights and international distribution, though it has contracted with Warner Bros.

The film is said to cover the literary prequel that leads into the "Lord of the Rings" films.

The first two films were set to come out December and the second the following year, costing about $500 million.

What is not known is how this would effect the first two movies. Would he have to add reshooting to extend the first two and thus not squeeze the grandeur of the worlds he has already created? Would he have to reuse footage he has already shot since rebuilding of sets would cost an enormous amount of money?

This is why we stick to the smaller indie films... Such issues give us a headache... But we do look forward to these big films. Read on.. Full article with the link. And feel free to comment.

How Healthy Is Our VFX Industry?

How Healthy Is Our VFX Industry? | Indie Lounge | Scoop.it

I read this article and had to write about it.  At the Lounge we tall often about how the music industry has changed and the film industry has changed, even television has been effected by the shift in technology.   As things modernize they become more affordable.  to create music and do an album, it cost tens of thousands.  Now you can get a Mac, and use inexpensive software to replace a huge studio. To make a film, you can rent of buy DSLR's to get high quality results.

This article focuses on how the VFX is also having its phase and shift. Underneath our noses, high end graphics and the equipment it takes to make them has dramatically changed and as a result, the multi-million dollar productions are able to do more.

Vfx companies have had to balance the expense of the equipment and the shift of its changes which occur so fast that at times the expense and the shift do not match. Hence forcing many businessEd to fail.  This is happening both in the US and overseas.

If you have an interest in how these changes occur and how it has affected the industry, read on.

Self-Help Film Wins BEST INDEPENDENT FILM at LV Film Festival(press release)

That's how Writer/Producer Robin Jay explains the meaning behind her film's tagline: "Taking the 'Hell' Out of Self-help." The movie, The Keeper of the Keys just won the prestigious Best Independent Film award at the 2012 Las Vegas Film Festival.

If you have watched the "Secret" or any other self help style film, well this one is apparently worth watching and possibly collecting on your ol DVD pile. The film follows a fictional character as he struggles to make sense of his disintegrating life and his unsatisfying circumstances. After losing his job and home to foreclosure, it can easily relate to millions of watchers in the U.S., naturally he gets frustrated and as life can sometimes change us into bitter angry old men, his fiance gets frustrated of his losing attitude and leaves him.

The feeling of loosing control of life is sure to be familiar, the film then focuses on how you can change things yourself. How?  Well read on and follow the story, this film seems well worth watching and is recieveing critical acclaim.
