Memories: Long Term Impact

Memories: Long Term Impact | Long and Short Term Impacts of War | Scoop.it

You will always have memories of the war, whether you lived through it, lost a loved one, or heard stories about it. Wars are powerful and are hard to forget, and should never be forgotten. If wars are forgotten history can easily repeat itself. We have to remember 9/11, the Holocaust, the Civil War, and all the other bad times in our history.  We have to remember the bad times to have good times.

War Changes People Forever: Long Term Impact

War Changes People Forever: Long Term Impact | Long and Short Term Impacts of War | Scoop.it

War changes people. It hurts people. It closes people off, and it opens people. I believe if you've lived through a war you're veiw of humans, of life, of the world are going to shift, for good or for bad. In Sarah's Key, Sarah was changed forever, after that summer she was no longer a ten year old girl, she was a women. She kept her feelings and emotions to herself, because she didn't want other to know her past, she was ashamed of it. It took a long term toll on her, and forever changed her life, as it does and has to many people today. It also changes people, just from hearing stories and learning about it, talking to a survior, or learning your relationship to the situation. Sometimes the past can unlock the future.

Living Conditions: Short Term Impact

Living Conditions: Short Term Impact | Long and Short Term Impacts of War | Scoop.it

Living conditions during war was horrid. During World War II, when Jews were held in concentration camps, the conditions they lived in were unbearable. Everyone was slammed in one room, and because of that there was much sickness. They were barely fed, and were treated like animals. It was a scary time, during World War II, one of our worlds worst times.

Other wars too, have had horrible conditions. For instance, during wars economys go down, stores close, and families are torn apart. Although they are not unbearable, they are hard to deal with.

Living conditions during war is a short term impact because, usually and hopefully people realize what they're doing is wrong and try to change them. In all wars although for instance radiation from nuclear weapons can cause birthing defeacts for an entire generation, mostly the conditions don't last for a long time. Hopefully, they don't last for a long time.

Death During War: Long/Short Term Impact

Death During War: Long/Short Term Impact | Long and Short Term Impacts of War | Scoop.it

Many people die during war, whether they were fighting for their country or living in horrid conditions in a concentration camp. Death takes a heavy toll on humans, beacause humans have the ability to love and make strong bonds, which makes it hard to lose a loved one. Death can change someone's views of the world, themselves, their personality, their life. Humans also blame themsleves for other's deaths, and slowly it eats aways at their heart and their insides. Death during war, does all of this, it changes lives, but also can be harder because your loved one was most likely gone for a period of time, and you weren't with them to see their last breaths.

Death can have long term or short term impacts on human life. It can have short term impact on human life because there are people in the world that cope with death really well. Also, because deaths during war usually happen fairly quickly, because all it takes is a bullet. Deaths can also have long term impacts, as well. Most people in the world don't do so great with death, it hurts people really badly, and changes them forever. That lasting change in them is from one death, and this is why death has long term impacts on human life too.

Death happens every day and is always hard to deal with, but death during war is even worse.  Death during war is worse because it didn't have to happen, it's luck.

Long Term Quotes From Sarah's Key

Long Term:

" 'Sixtieth commeration of the Vel' d'Hiv'.'... A famous stadium where biking races were held. Thousands of Jewish families, locked up there for days, in appaling conditions. Then sent to Auschwitz. And gassed."
This shows that people can remeber the past, but more people need to. People can't just turn their backs on the bad parts of our worlds history. Their haveing a sixtieth commeration, which means they're remebering what happened there and taking it all in.

"Where are you, my little Michel?...The years have gone by and I still have the key. The key to our secret hiding place...It has never left me since July 16, 1942... No one here knows about the key, about you. About you in the cupboard. About Mother. About Father. About the camp. About summer 1942. About who I really am. Michel. Not one day has gone by without me thinking of you...Sometimes, I want to die. I cannot bear the weight of your death...I cannot bear the weight of my past....Coming here was a terrible mistake. I though I could change. I though I could put it all behind me. But I cannot...This life is too much for me to bear. I look at the key and I long for you for the past...I know now my scars will never heal..No one will ever know. Remeber. Never Forget....'She killed herself,' William said flatly. 'There was no accident. She drove that car straight into the tree.'
This shows that war changes people. It shows that 60 years later, the pain and hardships of that war, that summer were still eating away at her, and it was just too hard for her to deal with.

Short Term Quotes From Sarah's Key

Short Term:

"At the sound of his voice, shutters began to open, faces peered out from behind curtains. But the girl noticed that nobody moves, nobody said anything. They simply watched."

This is horrible and luckily not a long term effect. Luckily people began to realize, the wrong doing of these actions and stand up for whats right, istead of sit back and watch, maybe even pretend you didnt see.
