If You Build It, They Will Come: Classroom Library Inspired Mini-Lessons | Learning Unlimited | Research-based Literacy Strategies | Literacy-Rich Environment | Scoop.it

“If you build it, [they] will come.”So, you’ve built (or are building) your classroom library and, like in the movie Field of Dreams, you think your students will magically “come” to the classroom library. These same students will leisurely browse books, fill up their bookbags, smile at you across the room, and read independently for hours with just the right book.

Stop. Rewind. Play.

Perhaps your scenario looks more like this. Students wander over to the classroom library, listlessly flip through the books, occasionally choose a book, frequently lose interest before they’ve completed the book, and return it to the shelf or tub. End of story.

They also read with students and guide and support them as they progress in their reading skills and provide time for students to read by themselves.
