As we raved about Kraggerud and Deneve's wonderful band, there was a passing comment from one of our wee enclave, who is a player in the RSNO.
Jenna Benesh's insight:

This article addresses the decline of classical era music being performed by the great symphony orchestras of the world.  Herald Scotland suggests that orchestras are more likely to play music from Romantic era composers, like Mahler.  This article could be an excellent read for my middle school band class since we often listen and discuss music from different eras.  I think this article could be a great start to a discussion about whether classical era music is no longer played or appreciated my audiences of the twenty-first century.

I think that it is important that music teachers are not misunderstood; many music teachers want to help students become well-rounded individuals with the ability to learn in and outside of the classroom.  I think this website does a nice job of introducing potential lesson plans that incorporate literacy development in the music classroom.

It is so great to hear students collaborating about the meaning of musical terms.  This video shows that students can develop their literacy skills by analyzing and discussing music.
