Short article and video of a news report featuring the release of the South Carolina Association of School Librarians (SCASL) impact study. Useful text and video when promoting the value of school libraries and the role of the teacher librarian in supporting student learning.

Dr. Laura Sheneman's curator insight, September 24, 2015 9:20 AM

"The presence of librarians and library support staff, instructional collaboration between librarians and teachers, traditional and digital collections, library expenditures, and access to computers," she explained.

The study found that the schools which had these five components had better performance on the Palmetto Assessment of State Standards.

Excellent article featuring the thoughts of a school principal as she works with her school community to build new libraries in the junior and senior schools. I love her vision, "We felt very strongly that the library is more than a facilitating process – it has cultural significance which matters. The library can inspire" and "Our approach is unashamedly about inspiring a love of learning". I think the Cabinet of Curiosities concept is a brilliant program in stimulating students' interest and encouraging inquiry.

personalised learning

German Bustos's comment, September 6, 2013 5:43 PM
Is there no need for a common minimum? It looks great the idea of a personal "playlist" of education topics, but if education should not give you something in common with the people you leave with, how can we built a common thing a "res publicas". Which are the boundaries or restriction of a total customized education? Every one will have the same liberty? even little kids? Even poor people? Even people with disabilities who need help to learn?
