Perhaps the main reason for this disappointing impact is that the inclusion of technologies in schools has done little to change the ‘tell and practise’ approach to teaching and learning – the predominant pedagogical practice of our time.

In this model, teachers tell students what knowledge is and what is worth knowing; meanwhile, students invest their limitless capacity for investigating, thinking critically, creating, hypothesising, and collaborating by memorising and practising what they’re told.

It is not only effective for long-term comprehension and retention. There are other benefits. Writing is a right brain activity as we usually are taking short cuts in notes. Keyboarding is a left brain activity. A conversation engages both hemispheres.

I've read about many a famous author who writes first drafts in longhand on yellow legal pads. Personally, I like the feel of writing with pen and paper, then transcribing into a Word document. This process seems to fully engage the creative brain.

The iSLCollective video quiz maker is a 'free web-based tool that allows teachers to create interactive video quizzes around YouTube and Vimeo videos. This is how it works: First, teachers choose videos from YouTube or Vimeo. Next they write questions that will pop up throughout the video. They can also add a lesson plan, vocabulary list, and discussion questions. There is an option for teachers to search for already-made video quizzes in our library. These quiz questions can be tailored to meet the needs of their students'. Once the video quiz is ready, click on ‘publish’ and provide data about the video such as title, summary, lesson type, level, etc.

I chose this resource because I agree 100% with the title. When I have used different technology and different programs with my students, they love it. Students in todays society get bored sitting in class with teachers talking to them. They want to be up and moving around working with technology to help them learn. I hope that this article will prove to our teachers that they must use technology for the benefit of their students. I have been in special education classrooms where autistic students were benefiting so much from programs on the iPad. Implementing these practices is so important to our students.

I chose this resource because students can be so creative when using technology in their education. They aren't restricted, and can create assignments or projects that make sense to them. They aren't restricted, and don't have to do exactly what the teacher tells them. I hope that this article will come true for many schools around America. Too often, teachers are afraid to let students be creative with the use of technology, because it is outside of their comfort zone to let the students venture off and create their own learning opportunities.
