Have you tried experimenting with 'flipping' your lessons? Consider using your IWB flipcharts and a webcam to record your language focus with a screencast app. Then give students the link so they can see it in their own time before the lesson. Give it a go and let us know how it went.

9 Barriers to Personalized Learning And How We May Work Around Them

9 Barriers to Personalized Learning And How We May Work Around Them | Cibereducação | Scoop.it
I didn’t know I was doing personalized learning when I first changed the way I taught.  It wasn’t until I wrote about it in a blog post and someone gave me the name and description that it clicked.  It made sense really; I wanted students to have a voice, have choice, and to be re-ignited passionate learners within my classroom, all tenets of the personalized learning philosophy.  For me it was a no brainer; why not teach in a such a way that students would want to be part of the learning?  Why not teach in such a way that students became experts and have a place alongside the teacher?  Yet, wherever I go resistance remains for personalized learning.  In fact, some educators or districts are quite against it, but for many different reasons.  I cannot be alone in seeing this resistance, so I thought a discussion of what those barriers may be and how you can approach a discussion to work around them would be in order.

I think the first step may be for teachers to experience their own self-directed learning.  It is hard to imagine until you do it.

25 Ways To Use Pinterest With Bloom's Taxonomy -teachbytes

25 Ways To Use Pinterest With Bloom's Taxonomy -teachbytes | Cibereducação | Scoop.it
Recently, I’ve been spending quite a bit of my time researching how to use Pinterest in the classroom in a way that is meaningful and relevant. I’ve posted a couple of articles about Pinterest before, and I’ve noticed that it is very popular among educators for both personal and classroom use. As I researched (and procrastinated) I started developing a running list of different ways Pinterest could be tied back in with Bloom’s taxonomy, which is my go-to for aligning technology tools with educational standards. Today, I finally sat down and put all of that together into a nifty graphic!

Jay Cross's curator insight, January 18, 2015 3:34 PM

Twenty-four speakers in twenty-four hours. Ten years ago I hosted a 24-hour online conference. We handed the mic from the U.S. to Australia to Abu Dhabi to London and back to the U.S. I dozed on a cot in my office but was awake for most of it. Sometimes only two or three or us were present. It proved difficult to keep the momentum going. I can't remember what platform we used; this was way before Google offered Hangouts. In those days I was out to prove that you could host conferences and other events using only free software. It was feasible but not as easy as it is today. The biggest obstacle to innovation is the limits we put on our thinking; the technology is up for almost any configuration we can imagine.

The future of online learning

The future of online learning | Cibereducação | Scoop.it

Students worldwide will have access to virtually any course subject in just about any language - tens of thousands of free Moocs offering everything from fine arts to engineering. Today, for example, edX and our Open edX partners offer more than 1,000 free Moocs.
• Moocs will get personal. One common misconception is that Moocs are impersonal. When we taught the first MITx Mooc on circuits, students told me that they felt as if the professor was sitting right there. Interactive technologies will continue to evolve and Mooc learning will personalise further; offering multiple pathways to navigate courses that fit specific learning styles and speeds.
