Why are there no takers for the 55,000 engineering seats this year in Tamil Nadu?
This was mega rejection. Seats for which parents prepare kids in kindergarten, seats that entice students with a promise of El Dorado, seats that were fought over till five years ago, remained discarded like all that paper you see outside Anna University during counselling days.

Jisoo's curator insight, April 11, 2013 5:34 AM

My Thoughts:

As a student who was in a process of applying to colleges, I came across many challenging questions. For examples, which school to attend and which area to major in. I am absolutely sure 99.9% of high school juniors or seniors come across these questions. There are a number of things we need to look at before deciding where to attend, and that is not the end! We also need to know what to study. Unlike high school, we have to specialize in one or two areas.  In high school, we get to choose few elective classes, but most of our classes are chosen by school. Because we are so used to taking classes that our schools require, choosing our own classes become very difficult. Therefore, we need to know what exactly is a college major and take a significant period of time to consider which major will fit me the best.

This is in response to Justice Markandey Katju’s article that appeared in The Hindu on September 3, 2012, entitled “Professor, teach thyself.” At the outset, let me say that a number of issues that he has raised in his article are justifiable criticisms of India’s higher education system and hence deserve further discussion even if one were to ignore the highly condescending tone of the article.

Law is entwined into every aspect of our life from something as simple as the age we may obtain a licence to the minimum wage you are entitled to receive and the rights you may have as a human being, Indian citizen or a consumer of any goods or service. The work of a lawyer is interesting, challenging and rewarding which is reflected in the wide reach and popularity of the legal profession. It is not surprising therefore, that law is and always has been a competitive profession to break into.
