New test to improve HIV diagnosis in poor countries - Reuters

New test to improve HIV diagnosis in poor countries - Reuters | Lifestyle and sexually transmitted diseases | Scoop.it

This article is about how scientists have come up with a test for the virus that causes AIDS that is more sensitive and much less expensive then the methods today.  Some saliva analyzation tests today exist but they can only pick up the virus when it reacheds high concentrations inside the body. The test could also be altered to detect other diseases such as sepsis and leishmaniasis etc. However, the mondern detection methods for such diseases is too expensive to be used in some parts of the world where resources are scarce. According to Wolrd Health Organisation data, about 23 million people living with HIV are in Sub-Saharan Africa out of a worldwide total of 34 million people living with the disease.

I liked this article very much as it was very informative as it contained many statistics and was also a very trustworthy article as the researach and information came from the scientists at Imperial College.
