The Elephant in the Room: 'I Remain, Still, a Gay Christian' | LGBTQ Youth Support and Advocacy | Scoop.it

"To my family's belief structure, this just isn't possible.

Opening to a letter and response:  Hi John! I stumbled across your site about two weeks ago, and have just been absolutely floored as I've gone back and read post after post. I've been so blessed through your writings and the comments that people have left. As a mid-twenties gay Christian in a small-town, conservative evangelical community, just knowing that you exist has brought me to tears a few times. Thank you.

Youth Action Conference | The Pennsylvania Student Equality Coalition

Youth Action Conference | The Pennsylvania Student Equality Coalition | LGBTQ Youth Support and Advocacy | Scoop.it

The PSEC Youth Action Conference will be nothing like Pennsylvania has ever seen.

The PSEC YAC is the first PA statewide LGBTQ conference for student youth – by student youth. PSEC Affiliates from all across Pennsylvania will be coming to Philadelphia for this historic weekend.

PSEC formed this spring as the first and only statewide LGBTQ youth organization in Pennsylvania – and the first youth-led statewide LGBTQ organization in the nation.

The PSEC YAC is a civil rights conference – not an academic conference. We will organize, strategize, and synthesize. It will be our space for us to rise up as experts on our issues through policy briefings and collaborative caucus sessions.

San Francisco – Gay-Straight Alliance Network and Equality California, leaders in the effort to protect the Fair, Accurate, Inclusive, and Respectful (FAIR) Education Act, applaud the California Department of Education (CDE) for issuing an informative and clarifying fact sheet on the new law and its implementation in schools.

A Christian Parent in Support of the CA FAIR Education Act

A Christian Parent in Support of the CA FAIR Education Act | LGBTQ Youth Support and Advocacy | Scoop.it

For those of you familiar with the California’s FAIR Education Act (SB48), it is the latest target for many Christian groups who believe that homosexuality is a sin. Motivations are far more complex than that but for me to try and capture what my brothers and sisters in Christ on that side of the aisle believe would be unfair. Suffice it to say, they are none too happy about this recently signed into law legislation and there is a well organized effort underway to place a referendum on the ballot that would repeal the law.

Queer Youth: Post the Twentieth or On Understanding Intersectionality

By understanding that the multiple identities we hold can afford us different privileges, or subject us to different forms oppression, we can see how they interact to keep each other in place. Let me make one thing clear: this is not about comparing dick sizes. This isn’t about seeing who can win “the Most Oppressed Game.” This is about understanding the realities of the world we live in and how different forms of power and oppression work together to keep them in place. It is about how we all contribute to the status quo in one way or another. And by achieving that understanding we can attack those systems that keep us all oppressed.

Understanding and dismantling power and privilege is something that needs to be done everyday. It is something that needs to happen if we are going to change this world for the better. This is especially true of ourselves. We need to understand our own privilege and how it manifests in order to dismantle power.

We need to understand that we are all in this together.
