Gov. McCrory's 16A judicial choice once reprimanded by NC State Bar

Gov. McCrory's 16A judicial choice once reprimanded by NC State Bar | The Ethics Minefield | Scoop.it

RALEIGH, N.C. — A new District Court judge appointed by Gov. Pat McCrory on Monday was reprimanded for professional misconduct more than a decade ago by the North Carolina State Bar. Michael A. Stone of Raeford was appointed to a state judicial seat in Hoke County.

McCrory spokesman Rick Martinez says the governor knew about Stone's reprimand before naming him as a judge, but didn't think one past mistake should disqualify him from consideration.

Kerry Sutton's insight:

In this instance, I am much more persuaded by the recent vote of confidence by the local Bar that put Stone's name before the Governor, than I am by the N&O's ability to dig up unflattering history from 1998. Using this to take a gratuitous shot at McCrory is beneath you, N&O. -KWS
