Atlas Corps Fellowship is a 12-18 month opportunity to serve full-time at Host Organizations located either in the USA or Latin America.

Robin Beecroft's insight:

Fellows work on issues that complement their expertise. They develop their leadership skills while sharing best practices and supplementing daily knowledge with theoretical topics. Fellows will receive approximately one week of orientation at the beginning of their Fellowship. In addition, Fellows will be enrolled in Atlas Corps Nonprofit Management Series training program while in the United States before being placed for a full time, 50-week volunteer position at a US or Latin American non-profit organization. If Fellows end the program in good standing, they may receive an End of Service Award equal to US$1,000. If the Fellow extends for an additional six months, the End of Service Award can increase to a total of US$1,500.

The program seeks to create an opportunities for women journalists addressing issues related to human rights and social justice to build their skills. The Fellowship is open to women journalists worldwide working in the print, broadcast and Internet media, including freelancers. Applicants must have a minimum of three years of experience in journalism. Non-native English speakers must also have excellent written and verbal English skills in order to fully participate in and benefit from the program. Applicants must have at least two samples of work focused on human rights and social justice ready for submission, and two recommendations for the fellowship program.

International Carbon Action Partnership – ICAP – is an open forum comprising public authorities and governments that have established or are actively pursuing carbon markets through mandatory cap and trade systems as one approach for reduction.

Designed for 25 to 30 policy makers and other stakeholders from the nongovernmental, academic and private sectors, it will convey an in-depth understanding of emissions trading as an instrument to mitigate greenhouse gases, and build capacity on the technical design and implementation of carbon trading systems. Over the span of two weeks, participants will have ample networking opportunities with eachother and with the teaching faculty, composed of representatives from ICAP members and other recognized experts in the field. Use of modern communication technologies will help promote active discussions among participants beyond the duration of the Summer School.

Researchers and language activists from any country are eligible to apply. Awards can be made to institutions, but no administrative (overhead, indirect) costs are covered.

The work most likely to be funded is that which serves both the native community and the field of linguistics. Work which has immediate applicability to one group and more distant application to the other will also be considered. Publishing subventions are a low priority, although they will be considered. Proposals can originate in any country. The language involved must be in danger of disappearing within a generation or two.

Through fellowships and residential writing workshops, South Asian scientists will be trained and supported to publish in peer reviewed journals, write for different types of publication, increase their influence on policy, and raise the profile of their research through the media.

The Open Society Foundations and University of Essex Scholarships in Human Rights provide opportunities for independent postgraduate study in the United Kingdom for students who are engaged in or intending to pursue postgraduate work in their own country. Applicants must demonstrate both academic excellence and the potential to become leaders in their own countries. The scholarships will enable suitably qualified students to pursue taught postgraduate programs within the Human Rights Centre at the University of Essex. Each awardwill provide for payment of academic tuition fees, examination fees, a monthly stipend for living expenses sufficient for a single student, and other agreed upon allowances, including one return economy airfare. Previous relevant experience will be considered. Preference will be given to applicants who have not previously studied outside of their home country. The deadline is 21 January 2013.

The Scholarship offers (a) a living allowance of $28,000 per annum (2013 rate), (b) a Relocation Grant of $2,000 awarded to students who are moving from interstate in order to study at the University of Melbourne or $3,000 awarded to those who are moving from overseas, (c) a Thesis Allowance of up to $420 (2013 rate) for masters by research and up to $840 (2013 rate) for PhD and other doctorate by research candidates, and (d) paid sick, maternity and parenting leave.

The training deals with the issues raised by a UN Resolution: UNSCR 1325 focuses on opening access for women to influence and participate in peace processes. It is also important to empower women (and concerned men) to participate and directly contribute to the implementation of UNSCR 1325. Another issue that highlights the complexity of the implementation is the coordination and accountability to promote and ensure knowledge awareness and action on UNSCR 1325 issues of local institutions. In that respect the work with conducting National Action Plans has now started and should be supported as well as the implementation.

Applications are invited for International Clore Leadership Programme funded by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and the Home Affairs Bureau of the Government of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, through the Hong Kong Arts Development Council.

The fellowship offers a budget of up to £14,000 to cover the costs relating to their programme including two return journeys to the UK from their home base, course and conference fees, travel, accommodation, subsistence, training and development. The successful candidates will be based in the UK for a period of four months spread over two periods of between 2-4 weeks. The International Fellows will join the group of Clore Fellows for the two residential leadership courses and will follow a development programme, which will normally include a secondment of around 8 weeks with a cultural organisation, training at business schools and attendance at conferences.

 This Institute at Columbia University is accepting applications from a wide range of professionals such as human rights practitioners, journalists, academics, educators, filmmakers, artists and others.

Robin Beecroft's insight:

The fellowship will be held during the autumn semester of 2013 at Columbia University in New York City. During the fellowship participants are expected to design a project that addresses some aspect of a history of gross human rights violations in their society, country and/or region. Projects can take a range of forms (films, publications, curricula, reports, meetings/proceedings), with the aim of implementing them when fellows return to their home countries. Fellows will first develop clear concepts of historical dialogue and accountability on the basis of practical experiences and scholarly insights. They will also comparatively analyze how these concepts and debates shape conflicts on the ground in diverse contexts, while identifying primary challenges to the implemention of historical dialogue projects and exploring a variety of strategies for addressing them. In addition, Fellows will build capacity in a wide range of skills required for historical dialogue, from facilitation to fund raising, as well as building networks of historical dialogue leaders and connecting with individuals and organizations relevant to their work. Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate at least two years of work on projects relating to historical dialogue and accountability.
