Though they’re often being lumped together, Microsoft’s HoloLens headset is a very different beast to the Oculus Rift. Whereas the Rift wants to transport you to a whole other virtual reality world, Microsoft’s augmented reality driven HoloLens wants to invade your real world. And that gives it a far wider potential for educational application.

How Music Can Improve Memory

How Music Can Improve Memory | Student Support | Scoop.it
Songs and rhymes can be used to remember all kinds of information. A study just published in the journal Memory and Cognition finds that adults learned a new language more effectively when they sang the words instead of spoke them. Even great literature is susceptible to this treatment. Book Tunes, a collaboration between educational entrepreneur Jonathan Sauer and hip-hop artist Andy Bernstein (he performs under the name Abdominal), turns long, wordy books into compact, catchy raps, spoken over an insistent beat.

Hands-on: Child-friendly YouTube Kids app launches on Android and iOS

Hands-on: Child-friendly YouTube Kids app launches on Android and iOS | Student Support | Scoop.it
YouTube is a fantastic way to keep your kids entertained with a tablet or smartphone, but it’s also a little concerning. You just never know if your child will end up using the suggested videos feature to jump from Sesame Street’s Elmo to a drunk Elmo parody, or view inappropriate advertising.

Google is aiming to solve that problem with a new app called YouTube Kids available on Monday for Android and iOS. The Kurio and nabi kids’ tablets will also receive the app in the coming weeks.

Early reports about the app surfaced late last week, but details were a little thin. Now that the app is available we can say that at first glance this app should appeal to parents and kids alike.

The human ingenuity within any organisation are it's greatest competitive advantage. Yet according to the latest statistics, over half of todays workers are disengaged . The future need innovators and the present needs innovative teachers to nurture them.   Creativity and the ability to innovate are natural characteristics but they must be built up and encouraged in our students, colleagues, and selves.

IteratED is committed to bringing out and nurturing the best in all of our faculty and students. We understand that this requires greater autonomy to make decisions and more trust in the natural ability to learn through exploration.

Are you a teacher who wants to reach for your highest potential? We are here to help you get there. Contact IteratED for more information on how together we can provide exceptional 21st-century education.

Tony Palmeri's curator insight, October 24, 2015 12:40 PM

"...Human ingenuity within any organization is it's greatest competitive advantage". This quote alone made me scoop this resource. How do we tap into the resource that is our staff? Engaging with them in the classroom and in the hallways to build communication capacity is important. Inspiring staff to take risks is a tricky enterprise - leaders must value this sort of behavior. This means that attempts which result in failure must be cherished, not scrutinized as they often tend to be.

Sketchnoting

Sketchnoting | Student Support | Scoop.it

Sketchnoting, in its purest form, is creating a personal visual story as one is listening to a speaker or reading a text. I also believe the interactive notebook, which includes the process of taking "regular" notes" while listening to a speaker and later creating a sketchnote of the text notes, would also be considered sketchnoting. This page will provide links, ideas, tips, and research evidence dealing with the power of sketchnoting. If you are looking for a book on the topic, the seminal work is this book by Mike Rohde.
