QUODL - Quality of Online & Distance Education: The Rules of e-Learning: It takes much longer than you think! | Learning & Technology | Scoop.it

"The quoted facts around the production of e-learning are often difficult to understand.  It appears that, on average, an hour’s worth of learning will take approximately 79 hours of development.   Of course it does depend upon what is meant by ‘Learning’ and ‘Development’.

EdTech Utopian's insight:
Why the assumption that having FB open in a lecture means that no learning is taking place? This reveals an archaic and uninformed view of the role of social media in 21 century teaching and learning. Your 'Benedictine' solution is a response to your own fears of inadequacy and irrelevance. You are robbing learners of the tools and skills they need to function in society outside of your artificial, didactic lecture environment. The 'facts' you are teaching them today will be obsolete in 5 years' time. This is a fine example of 20th century academic arrogance and technophobia. You've done your learners a great injustice.
