Reverse Mentoring - bringing generations closer together

Reverse Mentoring - bringing generations closer together | Leading self and others | Scoop.it
Carolyn Wong's insight:

Telstra's great program on bringing together their graduates and their leaders together to form a mentor mentee relationship.  The graduate is the mentor, and the senior manager is the mentee.

The program is not new, and not one off.

For the senior manager, "reverse mentoring has reminded him to keep working closely with people in all levels of his business unit, encouraging frank and honest conversations and making sure he has time to join them ‘in the trenches’ to understand where improvements can be made in his business."

and for the graduate, an eye opener towards the responsibility, decision making, and strategy formulation process of a senior manager.

Absolutely loving this initiative!

I am so glad that we are moving away from the industrial era where human beings were just means to the end. The beauty and worth of human being is limitless and so is their potential to learn. We need to learn to unleash and harness the power that people have by treating them as human beings, like we would like to be trated ourselfs.

Yahoo Employee Satisfaction Hits 5-Year High Under Marissa Mayer

Yahoo Employee Satisfaction Hits 5-Year High Under Marissa Mayer | Leading self and others | Scoop.it
Employee satisfaction at Yahoo under Mayer is at its highest level in five years, according to data from Glassdoor.
Carolyn Wong's insight:

Turning Yahoo around by making it more desirable place to work.  Does it work?  Definitely!  the workplace is the place they spthe the most time outside of their home, infarction it is the 2nd home, so how are you creating the warmth for this 'home'?

Focus on the motivational factors, and increase the engagement is definitely one way to go about it.  Yahoo proved it, many others have too. So why aren't everyone placing port importance on employee engagement?

enjoy!

Why You Should Groom Successors at All Levels

Why You Should Groom Successors at All Levels | Leading self and others | Scoop.it
Develop talent internally, and you'll have suitable candidates who can fill slots, whenever they open up. Start now.
Carolyn Wong's insight:

There are 2 main reasons why companies fail at building talents for their future - not knowing that succession planning is, or, too much power ego to pass on knowledge to others.

Great employer of choice are those who have a reputation of being a talent factory.  Yes there is always the risk of building up their skills and they leave, but be proud that you have busauna another talent that is sought after by others.  Because that same reputation will also attract and retain high quality candidates for you as well.
