n late September 2017, an impressive international study by the Economist of how 80 nations were doing in preparing students for the future found New Zealand #1. Fortuitously, I was about to join a CoSN delegation to New Zealand to study education innovation there. While admittedly the legendary scenery and Pinot Noir were alluring, I also was very curious to learn what strategies and practices propelled this small out-of-the-way country into first place in the elusive effort to prepare students for the future. So, here’s what I learned in my whirlwind tour through some amazing schools.

P21 recognizes that all learners need educational experiences in school and beyond, from cradle to career, to build knowledge and skills for success in a globally and digitally interconnected world.
The Partnership for 21st Century Learning (P21), a coalition of business, education, and government leaders, welcomes Journalism Education Association (JEA) as its new member. Through this unique partnership, JEA will join forces with other leaders of the 21st century learning movement to ensure all children have access to a high quality and relevant education.

How to Make High School More Like Kindergarten

How to Make High School More Like Kindergarten | Leadership to change our schools' cultures for the 21st Century | Scoop.it
One of the great innovations in education was the concept of the play-based early-childhood education, or kindergarten, developed by Friedrich Fröbel in the 19th century. For centuries we have accepted a model of playful exploration in the early years, a model that gradually shifts, in the elementary years, to a more desk-bound approach, in which the teacher provides information and students demonstrate that they have understood that information. This works for some kids, but for others, it’s, well, stultifying. School becomes something to be endured rather than enjoyed.
