Cruise Line Class's curator insight, March 11, 2014 11:08 AM

I can't tell you how empowered I felt and became when a mentor helped me to identify persistence as one of my strengths.  I was young when I had the aha moment, and it literally changed the way I looked at anything.

Resilient people aren't those who are smarter, never make mistakes, or don't fail; however, resilient individuals don't see the small delays as failures.  My mantra has always been "Failure is not an option."

Instead of being inpatient and focusing on what you don't have, it is imporatant to acknowledge progress and keep the goal in sight daily and consistently.

Overcoming Challenges of Personal Change

Overcoming Challenges of Personal Change | Leadership | Scoop.it

Leaders have to learn and practice new leadership behaviours to overcome some of the habits that are limiting their current or future effectiveness.

Executives’ efforts to develop new behaviours often perturb the equilibrium situation they had reached with members of their ecosystem, who are often unwilling and/or unable to change their own behaviour in ways that would support the executives’ efforts.

Understanding these four challenges doesn’t make the change easy, but it makes it easier for executives to accept that the change process is demanding and they must hence approach it with courage and persistence. It also helps to identify four pillars that can be extremely useful to executives who want to modify some aspect(s) of their leadership style.

Does Your Company Make You a Better Person?

Does Your Company Make You a Better Person? | Leadership | Scoop.it

Successful organizations place personal development front and center.

Imagine if you worked in a place where your inadequacies were presumed not to be shameful but were instead potential assets for continuing growth, where business challenges were new opportunities to test out whether you could take a more effective approach to solving a problem, where no matter how effective you were at your job, you could keep stretching yourself to even greater levels of capability.

This creates a different kind of vitality at work: a work and life integrated rather than balanced against each other.

As Work Gets More Complex, 6 Rules To Simplify

Why do people feel so miserable and disengaged at work? Because today's businesses are increasingly and dizzyingly complex -- and traditional pillars of management are obsolete, says Yves Morieux. So, he says, it falls to individual employees to navigate the rabbit's warren of interdependencies. In this energetic talk, Morieux offers six rules for "smart simplicity."

Real battle not against competitors, but ourselves, our bureaucracy, our complicatedness.

Charles Cameron's curator insight, March 31, 2014 6:03 PM

If you are a workforce manager and don't necessarily subscribe to the traditional hard (metrics, processes, systems) or soft (interpersonal feelings, traits) pillars of management you may enjoy Yves Morieux's take on the new simplicity.  Yves is a BCG Consultant and promotes a 'smart simplicity' which calls upon people at work to replace systems and processes with greater understanding of what others do at work, reinforcement of relationship integrators and improved feedback loops.  He argues this will promote better productivity and engagement however, I am left wondering whether it can apply to large workforces.  We're all suckers for simplicity.

Developing Mindful Leaders for the C-Suite

Developing Mindful Leaders for the C-Suite | Leadership | Scoop.it

Focus, clarity, creativity, compassion, and courage. These are the qualities of the mindful leaders. They are also the qualities that give today’s best leaders the resilience to cope with the many challenges coming their way and the resolve to sustain long-term success.

The real point of leverage — which though it sounds simple, many executives never discover — is the ability to think clearly and to focus on the most important opportunities.

Peace Overtures's curator insight, March 11, 2014 9:36 AM

The important thing is to have a regular introspective practice that takes you away from your daily routines and enables you to reflect on your work and your life — to really focus on what is truly important to you. By doing so, you will not only be more successful, you will be happier and more fulfilled in the long run.

Chris Shern's curator insight, March 12, 2014 6:08 AM

Things are not changing as fast as the world around and within business. There are still far too many managers in a world with an increasing need for mindful leaders.

2014: The Year of Workplace Reinvention

2014: The Year of Workplace Reinvention | Leadership | Scoop.it

It is time to explore new ways of working, and as we do, it is important to consider the foundation of culture and strategy in the organization.

First, you need a clear organizational purpose and strategy. People must understand where the organization is headed and why, as well as how they contribute to that strategy.

Second, People must trust and be trusted in order for leaders to relinquish their power and individuals to lead themselves with integrity and authenticity.
