Recycled Percussion

Recycled Percussion | Las Vegas Shows & Entertainment | Scoop.it

When they debuted on Americas Got Talent, Recycled Percussion, brought an edgy, rock driven style of entertainment to the forefront of the national television spotlight. "Junk Rock" as it was called combined a random assortment of objects including: pans, ladders, powertools, appliances and garbage cans with the skilled musical artistry of a group of talented musicians from New Hampshire. This unique combination is more than just skilled performing. It was designed to be an experience that stimulates all the senses. After years of playing shows around the country and being featured on worldwide television, Recycled Percussion brings their high energy Junk Rock back to Las Vegas inside the Quad Hotel and Casino.

Formed in the 90's by a group of friends from New Hampshire, they first played together at a high school talent show. It was here that they displayed a unique talent for creating music using some of the most unusual objects one may not think of as musical: Buckets, ladders, power tools and many other everyday items; This lead to the creation of a whole new genre of entertainment now known as 'Junk Rock.’ It wasn't until they were featured on the cover of USA Today in 1999 that their popularity really began to flourish.

From there they toured nationally performing their ground-shaking form of music for professional sporting events, corporate events and everything in between. Before long they made their way to the national television stage by making an appearance on the hit reality series, America's Got Talent. The rest was history as they gained worldwide attention and eventually found themselves performing nightly in Las Vegas.

Now they call the newly renovated Quad Hotel and Casino home and have made some changes to that original talent show performance. The show itself is an intense experience mixed with classic rock covers as well as original works that make use of all the off-the-wall props you could possibly imagine. High levels of audience interaction make it a must for families and large groups. Their new show is just getting started and will no doubt continue to grow.

At their grand opening just a few weeks ago, the stars were out as a host of fellow Vegas entertainers joined in on the fun. Hypnotist, Anthony Cools; the cast of Evil Dead The Musical: 4D, iCandy star, Daisy de la Hoya were all in attendance, among many others. The show was promised to be the best incarnation yet, and the audience got that promise and so much more. If opening night was any indication of what is to come, Recycled Percussion is going to quickly become one of the biggest acts on the Vegas Strip.

The next time you are in town come check out the energy and excitement that only Recycled Percussion can bring to the Strip. Get ready to have a great time, rock out to some great music, and see some of the most innovative instruments in the world. Don't wait; get your tickets for Recycled Percussion today!

Gerry McCambridge is None Other Than "The Mentalist"

Gerry McCambridge is None Other Than "The Mentalist" | Las Vegas Shows & Entertainment | Scoop.it

Gerry McCambridge has made a huge name for himself all across the United States, through mind reading and the power of suggestion he has managed to freak people out in most states. He calls this skill “Mentalism”, and of this he is the undisputed master. But don’t go rounding Gerry in with most psychics, his art has nothing to do with the mystical. In lieu of not being able to talk to the dead or anything like that, The Mentalist has developed a set of skills and an intuition capable of reading the mind and body of most individuals down to the smallest details. Past lovers, predicting failures and so much more, McCambridge has wowed audiences all across the nation with his one-of-a-kind readings, the results of which are nearly impossible to predict otherwise!

Born on Halloween in New York City, when Gerry was just 8 years old he had realized he had a natural talent for being a convincing individual. Not your run of the mill child, Gerry was often cited by his mother to have what’s called “THE POWER OF PERSUASION!” With skills like these, Gerry managed to get himself out of trouble often, and was always told he should become a lawyer. What didn’t help was the fact that Gerry’s father was an NYPD detective, and through his dad’s interactions with his siblings, Gerry picked up some subtle strategies thanks to his naturally intuitive nature.

As a young teen, Gerry studied the art of illusions and visual misdirection, By the age of 15 he had already performed his first show for money, and obtained a position as an apprentice for a couple different magic shows. As an apprentice he toured the country, gaining insights and tips to one day run his own show, and learning the fact everybody has to pay their dues first!

When Gerry realized he could combine his knowledge of illusions, with his mastery of interrogative techniques and natural intuition, he immediately knew what it meant for him. The rise of “The Mentalist”! After appearing at clubs and venues across the nation as well as TV and radio spots, Gerry had the nation hooked on “Mentalism”. For a time while he fine-tuned his show, Gerry worked at a psychiatric hospital, studying psychology and hypnosis and furthering his mastery of this as of yet un-practiced art form.

Since landing a huge NBC TV spot in the early 2000’s, named “The Mentalist”, over 6,000,000 people tuned in to see Gerry show off his talents. Since then, Gerry has managed to receive two major awards for “Mentalist of the year”, and after appearing in a number of self-titled shows for different casino’s he has landed at the V Theater inside of Planet Hollywood. Now performing his self titled show for audiences from all around the world, his skills have increased as his show continues to be one of the most unique acts on The Strip. So don’t take my word for it, Come and see the world famous “Mentalist” Gerry McCambridge, do what he does best live, exclusively at the V-2 Theater ( right above the V theater ) inside planet Hollywood’s Miracle Mile Shops.

After deciding that magic was what he wanted to do for the rest of his life, Nathan perfected his skills for a number of years and went on to win various first place trophies at many magic competitions. Before long Nathan started to get the attention of some major television networks and eventually landed a role in the 1996, Worlds Greatest Magic. This exposure led him to a headline gig in Atlantic City and eventually toured internationally for several years.

In 2003 he came to Las Vegas to perform in the all new V-The Ultimate Variety Show at the Venetian Hotel and Casino. After gaining some local notoriety he decided to open his own show, Comedy Magic, at the Aladdin (now Planet Hollywood). During his solo run Nathan got back on television by making several appearances on America's Got Talent.

The dream came full circle in 2008 when Nathan signed a deal with the Flamingo Hotel and Casino to perform his Comedy Magic show inside their famous main showroom. It was a residency that would skyrocket Burton to one of the hottest tickets in town. His magic show had the perfect balance of illusion, comedy, heartwarming stories and was perfect for audiences of all ages.

The neon Graveyard highlights Vegas' Forgotten Memories

The neon Graveyard highlights Vegas' Forgotten Memories | Las Vegas Shows & Entertainment | Scoop.it

Ever seen VEGAS! The Show? Well if you have you’ll remember that the show highlights one of the most historic spots in Vegas, “The Neon Boneyard”. Ever heard of it? This lot is home to more pieces of Vegas history than the Mob Museum and all the private Casino galleries combined. Yup, the signs that have been acquired at this spot highlight one of Las Vegas’ biggest draws, and one of the first booming advertising strategies that made an unforgettable impact on the casino and hospitality industry. First appearing in the 1930’s, the colorful gas that imprinted itself in our imaginations helped to draw considerable business to the once small desert outpost, and what I call the “Century Long War of the Signs” had begun. From Siegel to Wynn, what Las Vegas big shot hasn’t utilized the human curiosity for giant glowing signs to increase their business? It Could be 60 feet tall blinking your casino’s name, or just a generic one of a kind design for budget purchase, but signs quickly became big business from the 30’s onward. Motels, restaurants, nightclubs, productions, wedding chapels, casinos and resorts all utilized some form or another of the inert gas. But after 80 years of making these colorful monoliths, new technology has made it cheaper and more convenient to get your businesses message across (LCD), so what happens to 80 years worth of signs?

Well some have survived to this day, and beside from being iconic, they still serve their purpose. Giant colorful words and symbols blasting a near epileptic frenzy of bright flashing lights directly into your head, I believe that’s the point right? Exactly, the bigger and crazier the sign, the quicker and longer they catch and hold your attention on their establishment. So you can imagine, with all the other zany things that have followed us through history, what grandiose signage was used to try and out-sign the competition? Well you have a 40 foot tall man playing Pool made for the legendary “Doc n’ Eddies Pool hall”, While not Neon the rebar reinforced statue was made reflective, a case of not being able to afford the lights but utilizing neighboring lights of other casinos. You can still see Eddy stuck mid shot at The Boneyard, then you have “Binions Horseshoe” and “The Golden Nugget signs”, two cases of giant words perched atop the casino in an effort for you to catch the sight even from across the valley. The Jackpot sign or anything related to winning were very popular among the less expensive resorts and casinos, what better way to draw a crowd than the subconscious idea that you are going to hit the jackpot?

Well luckily now we know better, and it takes a little more to attract visitors than the words “come here” flashing like the sun with a giant arrow pointing directly at the entrance. Not to say you won’t still find that run down mini casino still sporting it though, but what the Boneyard represents is the past struggle to establish a city. The tug of war between the towns biggest businesses trying to outdo each other in a vein effort to attract visitors and bring them into their casino. It was the time before reservations and star reviews on the internet, the days when the average American came to Vegas not knowing WHAT to do first. It was a time when capturing the eye on the street was one of the most important aspects of business on The Strip. But in this day and age, The Boneyard literally holds the receipts for the modern Vegas that stands today. So why not check out “The Neon Boneyard” in real life and see it with your own eyes, or just come and check out VEGAS! The Show! For an historical Las Vegas experience you won’t find anywhere else!

Get your tickets for VEGAS! The show! Today, and experience a small bit of Sin City history for yourself!

Lighting Design in Vegas Theater

Lighting Design in Vegas Theater | Las Vegas Shows & Entertainment | Scoop.it

There is so much that goes into Las Vegas show production. Audiences see the result of hundreds, sometimes thousands of hours of work and rarely get a glimpse into how their favorite shows get to that final, polished state. Beginning today we want to offer a look behind the curtain at some of the processes that go in to putting a Vegas spectacular together. Every so often we will highlight a particular area of stage production. For some it will offer a chance to learn something new and maybe even start on a path to working in theater, for others it will allow them a peak into a world few get to see.

Lighting is one of the key elements in any performance. Lighting can be used in a number of different ways and even express different tones and emotions. Seems like a strange concept, doesn't it? Turns out there are several different functions that lighting plays.

Visibility: Being able to see what is happening on stage.

Revelation of Form: Changing the perception of certain elements on stage.

Focus: Shifting the audiences attention from one part of the stage to the other.

Location / Time: Creating the illusion of certain locations or times of day (sunrise and sunset, moonlight, etc.)

Plot: Changes in lighting can indicate changes in the plot or story of the performance.

You can see many of these functions in a lot of the Las Vegas headliner's performances. Each one will employ these techniques in different ways. For example, David Copperfield will use lights much differently than say, a concert featuring a heavy metal band. Even attractions like the Bellagio fountains take special care when it comes to using lights.

Now that you are familiar with the functions of light, you are probably wondering how it is all put together. The individual responsible for creating the complex network of lights and cables and how it is all displayed in relation to the performance is the lighting designer. The lighting designer works directly with the director, set designer, costume designer and sound designer in order to create proper lighting for the piece being presented.

There are two points in the production process when the lighting designer is utilized the most. In the pre-production phase, they read the script very carefully and make notes regarding the functions of light (as discussed earlier) and how they relate to the script. This can include: scene changes, important scenes such as a fight, death or revelation of important plot points; locations and time of day. Once notated, the lighting designer will then sit in on production meetings with the rest of the team and try to convey how he (or she) wants the lighting to look. This process can often take a long time and be a bit on the confusing side, so it important that everyone involved is on the same page. To better give the production team an idea of what needs to be done, storyboards, pictures and drawings are often used. These are used to project the placement of the lights, colors being used and other elements. Once the designs are agreed upon, the team moves into the next phase: installation.

During the install, the lighting designer typically works with the light board operator, lighting technicians and the electricians to ensure that the lights are installed, positioned and focused properly.  We will focus a little bit more on this part of the process in the second part of the series as there are several detailed steps that go into this part of the process. Installing, along with technical rehearsals can often take several weeks but once the process is finished, a beautiful stage prodcution now has incredible lighting, adding another level of artistic expression to the directors overall vision.

When it comes to setting the mood, lighting is key. Many big Las Vegas production shows employ some of the best lighting technology and designers in the world. There are plenty of Vegas shows that rely heavily on lighting as a key part of the story being told on stage. VEGAS! the Show has some of the best lighitng of any show on the Strip. With state-of-the-art technology, David Saxe Productions is able to provide the audience with not only just a great show experience, but a visual experience unlike any other show in town. So the next time you find yourself at any show in Vegas, take a look towards the celing and check out all the different lights. Then watch as they all come together on stage and prepare to be amazed.

Check back next week for the second part of our Backstage Series on Lighting Design.

The Skating Aratas Shine in V - The Ultimate Variety Show!

The Skating Aratas Shine in V - The Ultimate Variety Show! | Las Vegas Shows & Entertainment | Scoop.it

Daredevil skating Duo Victor and Jenny Aratas or more commonly known as “The Skating Aratas”, have been making plenty of press this past year. If you haven’t already seen them, the couple perform a near death defying act to which they propel themselves in a circle wearing roller skates at breakneck speeds, add a number of intricate poses and spins totally reliant on the couple being centered in their gravity and you have the act of “The Skating Aratas!” But if you watch the show you will notice an intimacy not present in most strips acts, and that’s because Victor and Jenny are in fact married! One of the more film worthy origin stories, this act has come together through love to bring you their famous spectacle of velocity week after week.

Victor coming from a 7th generation circus family, has been practicing since he was as young as 14 years old. His mother, an aerialist who concentrated on the Russian swing and the flying trapeze, spent sometimes up to 10 hours a day helping her children perfect their skills. Teaching them the basics of having to cross train and body-build as a safety precaution, and teaching Arata and his sister how to perform a similar act to the one Arata performs today on a 10 foot by 10 foot platform. Arata says of those days there was no pressure, and it was all about experimenting with what audiences liked and showing off. His mother made it an effort to help him perfect the skating routine as a safer means of entertaining and being a part of the family tradition. But the act his mother developed is far safer than what is performed now, as Arata has taken on the family love of adrenaline! His wife, jenny was born in Germany and had an extensive background as an acrobatic dancer. Before Victor would perform the act with his sister, fearing for Jennies safety, but after his sister became injured Arata found no luck trying to teach other women the complicated routine.

Soon after Jenny was incorporated into the act, and the couple have been happily performing together since. Arata embarked on the arduous process of getting his wife and newly found partner safely ready for the act. A strict and drudging routine would be required to build the core strength and muscles necessary to stay in control, after nearly 8 months of body building mania Jenny was ready. Jenny grew up in Russia with figure skating experience, so naturally she took to roller skates with ease. The next task was helping her keep her composure during the rapid spinning, not as easy as it sounds! But with Victor guiding her, they finally developed the act after 3 years! (better safe than sorry!) With the whole new element of having to ensure his wife’s safety, there is a certain element of risk both physically and emotionally that make this act so compelling to watch!

So you cant miss out on the sensation one more minute, pick up your tickets to V-The Ultimate Variety Show today, and see the famous “Skating Aratas” in action with your own eyes!

The Dead Have Risen Only At V Theater! | Las Vegas Shows & Entertainment | Scoop.it

Fans of the cult classic film series ‘Evil Dead’ rejoice! There is a brand new musical on the Strip featuring your favorite hero and of course copious amounts of blood. Evil Dead: The Musical 4D brings everything you love about the movies right to the Las Vegas stage. For fans of Sirc Michaels, all your favorite faces will be involved in this new and improved update to the beloved cult hit series, “The Evil Dead!” Called 4D because of the extra dimension, you will feel all the drenching bloody horror the cast feels, as you will have gallons upon gallons of crimson dread sprayed in your direction (and maybe even directly at you!).

The story revolves around the Evil Dead trilogy and begins with Ash Williams and a group of friends who take a weekend trip to a remote cabin in the woods. Sounds like all sunshine, fun and games, right? All was going just fine until the friends uncovered The Ancient and Legendary Book of the Dead. This discovery lead to the release of an evil force that slowly began to posses the everyone and it is up to Ash to try and save everyone before it’s too late. After what can only be described as a fight for his life Ash manages to escape the cabin but to what? The story continues sometime later with him and his girlfriend taking a much needed vacation only to unleash the evil demons once again and concludes in ‘Army of Darkness’ when Ash is thrown back in time and does battle once again. Helping the medieval denizens defend themselves against what they can only refer to as, “The Deadites!”

Helmed by Famed Las Vegas playwright, Sirc Michaels, Sirc is a veteran of gritty “In Your Face” stage humor that is helping to introduce an entirely new generation (and far different crowd!) to the world of musical theater. Michaels has experience with the Cult hit “Rocky Horror Show” and a number of other productions back in Austin, TX.  Taking his love for the movie series with his skills and passion as a director and writer have resulted in the awesome new form of musical found in this one of a kind production.

The stage adaptation features elements from all three of the hit movies and includes something never before seen in a Las Vegas stage production. The splatter zone is a special section located inside the VIP seating area that allows audience members to get so close to the action they get sprayed with the blood of the un-dead. (Don’t worry, its not real.) You get a free t-shirt to commemorate your time spent in the bloodbath and even a bloody meet and greet at the end!

This along with the musical aspect of the show make this one of the most unique and entertaining musicals on the Strip. Spectators are invited to quote along with the cast as the story is told. If you haven’t seen the movies before, don’t worry; this musical will provide you with an experience that will make a fan out of you yet!

The Lopez Brothers Remain Best In The West Musically!

The Lopez Brothers Remain Best In The West Musically! | Las Vegas Shows & Entertainment | Scoop.it

When it comes to the Lounge Music of Las Vegas, Jerry, Gilbert and Lenny Lopez have kept and continue to keep the tradition alive and kicking. Playing traditional shows around town in classic fashion they form an old school big band called “Santa Fe and The Fat City Horns.” The history behind these talented musicians doesn’t start with Sin City though, in fact it starts in the place Jerry is nicknamed after, Santa Fe! Their grandmother, Magdalena Griego Vigil, created the traditional song played every year at the celebration of the founding of Santa Fe called “Que Viva La Fiesta”. If you were in Santa Fe anytime in the 60’s you knew well who the Lopez Bro’s were, and you were definitely familiar with their contributions. They would perform for every Festival, political rally and community event during their run in Santa Fe before they would come and grace the glittering stages of Vegas.

Since coming to Las Vegas, The Brothers have made quite a name for themselves. They would go to lead a slew of high end and big name productions with their classic musical stylings, letting the entire town know their name. Coming from a long line of musicians, the brothers grandmother was a fantastic poet and composer who learned it all in turn, from her own father! Don Pablo was a famous composer of religious verses, and was featured in the last Spanish speaking American newspaper in the southwest. Pablo was also part of Los Villeros Alegre, the leading ensemble of the southwest at the time and is even cited to have traveled with Pancho Villa while he tried to escape General Pershing! But he would end up having two children, one of which would be jerry and Gilberts’ mother. The brothers would grow up and attend school in Santa Fe, and by the time they were 12 they had recorded 15 mariachi tracks. During the 70’s they would travel as Troubadors with a famous flamenco artists, soon the three brothers would build a band named Los Hermanos Lopez, then in 1975 the bro’s said goodbye to Santa Fe and hit the road for Vegas. Playing a few lower end clubs at first, the band slowly built up and in no time became Nightlife Icons.

Now Santa Fe and the Fat City Horns are as popular as ever. Giving tribute to their heroes and keeping the flavor the Lopez bro’s are so well known for. Now a 14 piece band, their musical influence is mixed, and they pride themselves on playing music from the soul and not the wallet! Never heading out on social media campaigns, buying tons of advertising space or shopping tracks to big labels, these guys fill rooms by word of mouth alone. Relying on new and age old fans alike to keep the name alive and keep their gigs coming, they prefer the old school approach. But with too many accomplishments to name, the Lopez Brothers will always have a Special place in the heart of Las Vegas, so check out Santa Fe and The Fat City Horns weekly gig or come see Jerry Lopez lead the band for the award winning production, “VEGAS! The Show” today!
