IE Law School, a leading international legal education centre based in Madrid, has launched a global legal tech competition in conjunction with a group of other legal and innovation backers. The winning startup will qualify for an incubator programme in Spain. The goal is to attract and help support innovators and startups that are using technology ‘to solve important legal challenges faced by governments, public institutions and civil society in a wide range of areas’.
The project is supported by a global network of law schools, Law Schools Global League, an international law firm group, ONTIER, and an innovation platform focused on the South of Europe and South America, called South Summit.

Thomson Reuters has launched an incubator via its Thomson Reuters Labs in Switzerland to host early-stage entrepreneurs building next-generation products in advanced analytics, blockchain and AI. As part of the official program startups will receive access to Thomson Reuters world-class data and content sets, mentoring from experienced executives and networking opportunities for investment and commercialisation. The data angle is especially relevant to any legal AI companies, which can sometimes find it expensive and hard to find the legal information needed to perfect their applications. Thomson Reuters, like other giant legal publishers, has a huge amount of legal data on hand.

LexisNexis has already launched the same sort of programme. Expect big data/content holders generally to fund the next stage in the development of intelligent content technology
