Dipity - Find, Create, and Embed Interactive Timelines

Create an interactive, visually engaging timeline in minutes. Use dynamic visualization tools to display photos, videos, news and blogs in chronological order.

I have not tried it but I could see how I could use it to get students for instance to identify and organise collaboratively key dates to retrace the history of the Internet. Or I could have used it with my Year 10 when they did their research about the life and work of Alan Turing. That would have been a great approach to clearly define and prioritise the main key dates to focus on for their Flash Project (See Animation 12 compeition).

CorkboardMe - Personal and collaborative sticky notes web-app | http://corkboard.me

The post it note is probably the most useful tool to implement A4L... I am often using this tool (students all have their own wall which I can access too) to conduct peer-assessment activities so that pupils can give each others feedback and keep a track of it + access it from anywhere. Their feedback becomes a collection of post-it notes. This becomes their to do list so that they can remove postit notes one by one once they have updated their work.

I love Jing... Don't you?

I love Jing... Don't you? | knews | Scoop.it

This has to be the easiest Screen capture/recording software I have ever used. It's very effiecient, let you record your video and share it instantly on screencast.com or youtube, or twitter....  or save it so that you can upload it on your own VLE.

A must if you are planning like me to use the flipped classroom approach. I have started recording a few video clips for my KS4 students... The following lesson on how to create animations in Flash using layers, converting symbols, and using tweening effectsworked really well.  Students were progressing at their own pace through a set of 6 videos getting increasingly more complex. They started repeating the steps before applying the same  technics to their own projects. (Alan Turing animation using the animation 21 UK wide competition... see previous article)

Infographics: What’s A Flipped Classroom?

Infographics: What’s A Flipped Classroom? | knews | Scoop.it

Could a flipped classroom teaching style be the solution to promote independent learning and make effective use of digital resources.

When I see my 4 year old son browsing at home through the Cbeebies website streaming MrMaker videos on how to build dinosaurs, puppets... I am starting to wonder. Especially when he told me this morning that he would ask his teacher today whether he could make the dinosaur at school like MrMaker did in the video he just watched.

I am now using this approach with my A Level students. First I had to ensure that all the resources I needed were online for students to access: I used Jing (screen recording software) to create a collection video clips (e.g. How to set up a website in dremweaver...). I put all these + pdf booklets, powerpoints... on our school VLE (Frog based) I set up an Edmodo account (Social networks for education) and invited all my students to join and I developed my on online markbook for students to access their coursework feedback on-line. I also subscribed to Dynamic Learning on-line resources (interactive ebook + pracice every question). Which means that all our resouces are now accessible online and I can communicate online with my students using Edmodo!

My students were really positive about this, I am now reviewing the way I deliver my lessons to encourage the flipped classroom approach. I will be able to reflect in a few weeks on how effective this approach was: How effectively students are using these online resources outside the classroom, are they becoming more independent, is this having a positive impact on their learning/achievment.

Edmodo or not Edmodo

Edmodo or not Edmodo | knews | Scoop.it

Edmodo? Quesako?

Edmodo is a Secure Social Learning Network for Teachers and Students

Here is another tool that might be worthwhile looking at to promote the Flipped Classroom approach with older students...

For now I am trialling this with a my KS5 students onl and I must admit I am quite pleased with it. A great way to "push" new resources to students and inform them when I have added more for them on the VLE.

In the past I thought why reinvent the wheel?... FB, twitter are already there. But clearly I would not use FB in the classroom though the functionalities are great there is no way I would mix personal/professional. So even with a seperate account I would not want student to mix their personal/studies and I doubt they would create a separate account. So could edmodo be the right answer? It works for me!

Wallwisher.com :: Words that stick

Wallwisher.com :: Words that stick | knews | Scoop.it

Wallwisher is an online notice board maker. Discussing a new idea? Taking notes? Giving feedback? Voicing opinion? Wishing a happy birthday? Now do all that easily with Wallwisher wall and some stickies.What I like about wall wisher is the possibility to moderate posts on the fly before other can see them. A must for classroom discussions/brainstorming sessions.

Also you can then keep your wall for future reference. Ideal to generate a bank of statements/ideas generated by pupils for pupils!
