The Return of MySpace - Klood

The Return of MySpace - Klood | Klood News | Scoop.it
Klood's insight:

MySpace was once at the top of the social media world and, arguably, the father that started it all too. However, it wasn’t long before it started to disappear from the minds of the trend setting youth of today and cast aside with the lethal tagline of being uncool. Fundamentally, the frustration of spending hours tweaking minor aspects of your profile so that it could look just as dreadful as before, but now with an exciting, all new layout and ‘MySpace song’, were tolerated by millions because there was nothing else and nobody knew any better. In short, MySpace was rubbish. Once Facebook came along, with a simple, sleek and easy to use interface that removed all the stress of quasi-coding and wasn’t plagued with spam accounts telling you to “Check out this website because you won’t believe it”, MySpace began to die a slow death...

Why Has Digital Marketing Become So Crucial? - Klood | Klood News | Scoop.it
Klood's insight:

We all know that the digital marketing revolution is well under way and that incorporating social media, optimised content and other elements of effective digital marketing into your business can prove extremely beneficial in terms of driving people to your products or services and building a profile. However, other than those who work directly in the industry, few of us appreciate just how essential digital marketing has become, the advantages it really brings to a business over more conventional forms of marketing, and how (dare we say it) we perhaps couldn’t market as effectively as we do without it. But do we really know why it has become such a force? Below are some of the reasons why digital marketing is as crucial as it is...

The Growing Importance of Visual Content in Social Media - Klood

The Growing Importance of Visual Content in Social Media - Klood | Klood News | Scoop.it
Klood's insight:

A recent study by MDG advertising showed that content with images had 94% more total views than content without images. It’s probably no surprise that people prefer to look at images or videos over large chunks of text, but the popularity and accessibility of multimedia now is rapidly changing the way marketers try to engage consumers on social media platforms...

Klood's insight:

Welcome to the first of a three-part guide on using Pinterest for your business. Believe it or not, Facebook and Twitter are not the only platforms for social media marketing. When it comes to the power of true aesthetic design, unobtrusive networking and the art of simplicity, Pinterest is where it’s at. Not just for cupcake recipes and soft furnishings either – in fact, it is increasingly becoming a more effective way of driving traffic to websites and promoting businesses than many other social media platforms.

The Death of the Credit Card? - Klood

The Death of the Credit Card? - Klood | Klood News | Scoop.it
Klood's insight:

It seems that we are on the verge of what could be the most significant retail trend to impact hospitality. Mobile retail is already huge in places like Scandinavia; with a recently passed legislation allowing you to charge anything up to €25 on your mobile phone bill, completely bypassing the credit card companies and banks. Similarly, in France, you can charge a more cautious €10. Despite the reluctance of some nations, the outlook is the same – mobile retail is about to revolutionise the way we purchase everything from parking tickets to birthday presents to Thursday night’s dinner.

Klood's comment, April 30, 2013 5:29 AM
For any startup business social media is key. It may not seem as if 140 characters or a weekly blog could make that much difference to the success of a new business, but the reality is that it is difficult these days to successfully market without including social media in your strategy.

The advantage that social media brings is a highly effective marketing and PR platform that you can use to make the most of whatever the budget you have, connecting you to millions of people around the world in a matter of seconds. The disadvantage to social media being the new marketing medium is that you have to learn how to use it, or find someone who can help you – which is where Klood comes in! For those looking to get to grips with social media, here are some of the things you should know...

When we think of social media and business, the first few things to come to mind are Facebook and Twitter. Yet, there is one mobile app that tends to get overlooked by businesses: Foursquare. True, it doesn’t have the same numbers that the likes of Facebook and Twitter can boast, but what it does have is a dedicated audience which has made over three billion check-ins.

Instagram, Facebook stirs online protests for privacy policy change | Wash Post

Instagram, Facebook stirs online protests for privacy policy change | Wash Post | Klood News | Scoop.it

Instagram initially kept quiet amid the outrage, as did Facebook, which did not respond to requests for comment. What remained in the public sphere was an Instagram company blog post that said, “Nothing has changed about your photos’ ownership or who can see them.”

The post linked to the actual “Terms of Use,” which included this sentence: “To help us deliver interesting paid or sponsored content or promotions, you agree that a business or other entity may pay us to display your username, likeness, photos (along with any associated metadata), and/or actions you take, in connection with paid or sponsored content or promotions, without any compensation to you.”

In the afternoon, Instagram tweeted: “We’ve heard you that the updates to our Privacy Policy & Terms of Service are raising a lot of questions. We’ll have more to share very soon.”

The controversy riled up privacy advocates in Washington and beyond, who long have been critical of the policies of Facebook. They noted that the Federal Trade Commission is monitoring that company for compliance with a binding deal that settled a privacy investigation against the company.

The policy change “fits into a very disturbing pattern” said Jeff Chester, executive director of the Center for Digital Democracy. “Facebook wants a frictionless system to collect as much information and likenesses as possible.”

Can Your Business Handle Big Data? - Klood

Can Your Business Handle Big Data? - Klood | Klood News | Scoop.it
Klood's insight:

Big data is essentially exactly what it says on the tin – data that is larger than life in terms of volume, speed, variety, and authenticity. According to the technology and consulting giant IBM, we create 2.5 quintillion bytes of data every day and 90% of the data that is in the world today has been created over the past two years. These kinds of figures make it easy to see how our data flow has gotten to such enormous proportions. And with 2013 being hailed as the year when digital marketing becomes focused on original content creation, the likelihood is that this speed of creation will only increase over the next 12 months, making big data even more relevant...

Is Your Business Embracing Live Streaming? - Klood

Is Your Business Embracing Live Streaming? - Klood | Klood News | Scoop.it
Klood's insight:

It’s no secret that we have fallen under the spell of live media and our unabashed obsession has led us to the perpetual development of live streaming technologies and mediums. NASA TV to Kitten Cams; political demonstrations to live sermons and even funerals – there is seemingly no end to the possibility of what can be streamed, our access to it, or our insatiable appetites for it. Of course, there is a strong leaning towards the entertainment side of things: live finals on television and the Big Brother mentality of 24/7 viewing. Unedited content complete with blunders and mishaps, often bringing in larger audiences than pre-recorded shows.

Which content will get the best visibility in Facebook in 2013? - Smart Insights Digital Marketing Advice | Klood News | Scoop.it

Along with most commentators on Facebook, I’ve written extensively about the new Edgerank algorithm in recent weeks. It’s clear that many brands have experienced a significant drop in organic reach (although to be fair I’m not the only one who has reported a significant increase in reach since the back-end of November as Facebook appear to have tweaked the algorithm again – see below).
