The pretzels that dreams are made of.

 

Though be warned: definitely a labor of love.  Took about 4 hours to prep, cooked to order as my my fellow Golden Globes watchers arrived, but totally worth the effort!  Best with a sweet and spicy brown mustard, and nice coarse salt.

A hearty black bread - caraway-crusted, and flecked with dashes of grated carrot. It's dark, dense with rye, and perfect when toasted then topped with a fat smear of dill butter.

 

My first yeast-based bread - a success!  Divine with tomato soup, white cheddar cheese, and some chocolate stout.

Barely made it into the oven, I was too busy taste-testing... 

 

After missing out on the beet loaf sandwich at Atlas Cafe this afternoon, I figured I would try making my own to bring for lunch this week.  While this doesn't have a tomato/ketchup base, a la traditional meatloaf, the tahini and soy sauce add incredible savoriness.  Impressive for a vegan dish.
