What Is Differentiated Instruction? | #ModernEDU

What Is Differentiated Instruction? | #ModernEDU | KidsEatHealthy | Scoop.it
At its most basic level, differentiation consists of the efforts of teachers to respond to variance among learners in the classroom. Whenever a teacher reaches out to an individual or small group to vary his or her teaching in order to create the best learning experience possible, that teacher is differentiating instruction.

Teachers can differentiate at least four classroom elements based on student readiness, interest, or learning profile:
Content – what the student needs to learn or how the student will get access to the information;
Process – activities in which the student engages in order to make sense of or master the content;
Products – culminating projects that ask the student to rehearse, apply, and extend what he or she has learned in a unit; and
Learning environment – the way the classroom works and feels.

Why Saying This Four-Letter Word Can Transform Your Productivity

Why Saying This Four-Letter Word Can Transform Your Productivity | KidsEatHealthy | Scoop.it

Perfectionists are often reminded that "done is better than perfect." But it turns out there’s another reason we should all try to create more "done" moments in our workdays.

Saying the word done can help you get more accomplished on your to-do list. "Telling ourselves that we’re done creates not only an emotional reaction but a physiological response as well," says Leslie Sherlin, a psychologist, neuroperformance specialist, and the cofounder of the brain-training company SenseLabs.

While this article is focused on the classroom teacher, it is an excellent piece for school librarians, too! This statement really caught my eye: "Schools and educators who choose a startup culture can essentially place a renewed focus on the role of the learner by empowering students to find authentic and meaningful problems and to search for solutions through design activities and iteration." Doesn't that sound like the school library media specialist to you? Be the teacher leader in your school and incorporate design thinking and a startup culture at YOUR school this year!
