La VOD pour les enfants est au centre de toutes les attentions

La VOD pour les enfants est au centre de toutes les attentions | Kid's TV | Scoop.it
Kids VOD is big business with Netflix, Amazon Prime Instant Video and a range of independents catering to the market. Here's an overview.

Summer holiday is upon us; well, not usspecifically but our children who now have six weeks of pure relaxation where they can climb trees to their hearts content and chase squirrels until the sun sets. But once the front doors close and suppers been eaten, it's only natural that many kids will want to settle down and watch their favourite cartoons and TV shows. The difference now, of course, is that kids are watching a lot more television. Nickelodeon announced findings last year that claimed children born after 2005 consumed on average 35 hours of television per week.

Amazon is happy to oblige: It has added a bunch of new kids’ shows from PBS to its Prime Instant Video collection. So, if you’re a Prime member, you can now stream “Caillou” and “Dinosaur Train” for free.*

What’s that? You have Netflix, and you’d like to use that service to occupy your offspring? Reed Hastings can help, too.

Après Netflix et Hulu, Amazon développe ses offres jeunesse

Après Netflix et Hulu, Amazon développe ses offres jeunesse | Kid's TV | Scoop.it
For parents, Amazon’s latest additions to its original video lineup is kind of a big deal. Today, the company says it has green-lit five new children’s test pilots to beef up its catalog of original video content on Amazon Instant Video and Prime Instant Video, as well as on European counterparts LOVEFiLM UK and LOVEFiLM Germany. One of the new pilots, “Teeny Tiny Dogs,” is produced by The Jim Henson Company and created by Howard Baker of “Rugrats” fame. Another is an animated series called “Creative Gallery,” which comes from Angela Santomero. Parents may not recognize her name, but they’ll know her work – she’s also the creator of “Super Why!,” as well as Emmy-nominated “Blue’s Clues,” and “Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood,” the latter which extends the legacy of Mister Rogers’ world of make-believe into a new series.

Amazon’s move into original children’s programming comes at a time when rivals Hulu and Netflix have been making more of an effort to target their youngest viewers. Hulu recently launched its own take on “Netflix Just for Kids” with “Hulu Kids,” and Netflix is now exploring the addition of personalized profiles for members, which would allow children’s content to be further separated from the adults’ programming.

Dailymotion’s France EVP Martin Rogard tells Les Echos the Dailymotion Kids Plus package, will host a library of over 1,000 videos after acquiring licenses from producers, who will be paid according to subscriber numbers, including Inspector Gadget maker Cookie Jar.

The launch is interesting for three reasons:

It shows Dailymotion is searching for more non-advertising income.
It further illustrates that operators are attracted to chargeable kids’ content.
It comes as Dailymotion’s ownership is likely to change in the next few months.

Lovefilm signs deal with DHX Media to stream 2,000 children's TV shows | Kid's TV | Scoop.it

Lovefilm has already had a streaming video selection for kids, but a new deal could patch up what few content holes are left. Amazon's UK service has signed a pact with DHX Media that gives it access to about 2,000 shows spread across the decades, including well-known back catalog titles like Dennis the Menace and more recent shows like Mona the Vampire. All of the expanded library is immediately available to watch for subscribers; that said, we'll admit to being more than a little predisposed towards Inspector Gadget as a first choice.
