This article from the Gazette opinion articles staff refers to the Keystone Pipeline and why we need to take advantage of it. As the article stated, it could create 20,000 new direct jobs in relation to the pipeline, while also creating thousands of indirect jobs in the oil and construction industry. This would be a great thing for America's economy because we could get out of the Middle East and it would also help solve the problem of unemployment in the US. We are spending way too much for oil in the Middle East, also, it is making us stay in contact with the corrupt countries in the Middle East. If we were to have North American oil, we could once again be isolationists and be an independent nation. It would also allow for us to bomb the poop out of the extremists in those poverty-filled nations. Obama's administration has delayed the approval of this pipeline because there are many pros and cons they have to consider. However, I believe they need to approve of this ASAP because America needs to try something to get us back on our feet. With china tapping on the door of the "most powerful nation"' it wouldn't hurt to try something new.

Key Facts on Keystone XL

Key Facts on Keystone XL | Keystone XL Pipeline | Scoop.it
We need jobs, but not ones based on increasing our reliance on Tar Sands oil. There is no shortage of water and sewage pipelines that need to be fixed or replaced, bridges and tunnels that are in need of emergency repair, transportation infrastructure that needs to be renewed and developed. Many jobs could also be created in energy conservation, upgrading the grid, maintaining and expanding public transportation—jobs that can help us reduce air pollution, greenhouse gas emissions, and improve energy efficiency.”

Keystone pipeline: How many jobs really at stake? - CBS News

Keystone pipeline: How many jobs really at stake? - CBS News | Keystone XL Pipeline | Scoop.it

President Obama's move Wednesday to reject a permit to build the Keystone XL pipeline drew fire from supporters of the project, with a spokesman for House Speaker John Boehner telling CBS that the decision threatens to "destroy tens of thousands of American jobs."

Exactly how much work Keystone, a proposed 1,700-mile pipeline that would transport oil from Alberta, Canada, to the Texas Gulf Coast, would generate remains in dispute. Transcanada (TRP), the energy giant bidding to build the pipeline, projects the undertaking would create 20,000 jobs in the U.S., including 13,000 positions in construction and 7,000 in manufacturing.
That figure, based on a report by a consulting firm hired by Transcanada to assess the project's economic impact, has been widely cited by Keystone backers on Capitol Hill. Other estimates advanced by supporters of the pipeline have been even more optimistic, with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce claiming it could create 250,000 permanent U.S. jobs.
