3 Butt-Firming Moves Victoria’s Secret Model Martha Hunt Does When She’s Not At The Gym

Victoria's Secret models spend a lot of time traveling, from appearances abroad to store openings in New York City. But one thing that can never lapse is their workout schedule. Recently SELF caught up with VS Angel Martha Hunt at an event for VS Sport, where she broke down some of her favorite hotel-room moves.

Martha typically turns to Pilates and kickboxing to stay in shape, but she pulls out her gliding discs when she needs to train on the go. The discs are a great addition to any workout routine because they force you to keep your balance, which activates your core muscles, and they fit easily in a carry-on suitcase.

Michael Olajide Jr., cofounder of Aerospace in New York City and trainer to VS Angels like Adriana Lima, recommends using fast and light movements on the discs to tone the glutes and quad muscles. Oh, and you might want to pack a jump rope, too. "Complement everything with cardio. Step off your slider discs and do your cardio. Then come back and hit different moves on the disc," Olajide told SELF.

Just like the rest of us, Martha needs mental motivation to get through that very last set. "When I feel like I can go no longer, I remind myself that this will not last forever," she said. "I will have a break and it will be over soon." We totally feel your pain, Martha! Steal three of her favorite do-anywhere moves ahead.

1. The Side Slide

You'll need a set of light handweights (try 3- to 5-lbs), or skip the weights all together. Place the glider under your moving foot (right, pictured above) and hold the weights at chest height. Keep your weight in the heel of your standing leg and your knee bent throughout the entire exercise. Really push your hips back and imagine you're sitting on a low chair seat if possible. The moving foot will only slide in and out a few inches. And be sure to keep your chest up throughout the entire exercise. Do 15-20 reps, then move on to the exercise below. (You'll hit the other side later!)

2. The Criss Cross

Keeping the same position from the move above but slide your moving leg diagonally behind your stationary (left) leg. Continue to keep a bend in your left leg and begin to slide your back foot in and out a few inches. Do 15-20 reps.

3. The Burner

Ditch the weight and come to all fours with a disc under the ball of each foot. Keep your wrists under your shoulders and knees below your hips. Lift your knees a few inches off the ground and begin to slide your feet in and out. When you're bringing your feet in, really squeeze your inner thighs to initiate the movement. Do 15-20 reps. Then repeat the entire circuit on the other side (yep that means you'll be doing this move a second time)!

For more supercharged sculpting moves that use gliding discs try this routine.

Score a Sexy, Sculpted Upper Body

At SELF, we’re all about effective exercises that minimize the time you spend working out while maximizing those body-sculpting results. That’s why we love the oblique dip with lateral raise from Los Angeles-based trainer Astrid Swan—it’s a two-for-one exercise that works your shoulders and abs.

The move is part of the Abs and Arms Super-Sculpting Ladder workout from SELF’s brand-new, seven-day Best Bodies Challenge. Here’s how to do it: Start standing with feet hip-distance apart holding a weight (start with 5- to 8- pounds) in each hand with arms by sides. Stretch over to left, sliding left hand down leg toward knee. Pause and lift right arm out to side at shoulder-height. Lower and return to standing. That’s 1 rep; alternate sides with each rep. Watch Astrid demonstrate how to perform the exercise in the GIF below and then try to do as many reps as possible in 45 seconds. Take a quick break and repeat, but this time for 30 seconds. (If you’re looking for a challenge, repeat both intervals one more time.)

Score the rest of the workout (plus six additional, ultra-effective sculpting and fat-burning routines, yummy and slimming recipes and fun pinnables to share) by signing up here. Because when I dip, you dip, we dip!

13 Times Sex Actually Is the Answer to Your Problem

When you get that feeling, you need sexual healing.

Ever had someone tell you sex doesn’t solve anything? While it might not exactly be a cure-all, anyone who's ever said that has clearly never experienced the effects of a mind-blowing orgasm on a stress headache that’s the size of a filing cabinet. Here are 13 other times when getting it on really is the way to turn your worries off.

1. When You Can’t Fall Asleep
Who needs herbal tea when you have this holistic remedy for insomnia?

2. When You're Trying to Move Past a Fight
He said he was sorry. You forgave him, and you meant it, but a part of you still kind of wants to smack him. Spank him instead, and within minutes, you’ll both be back to your disgustingly cuddly selves.

3. When Work Is Stressing You Out Like Crazy
You wish you could leave work at the office, but you have that big presentation tomorrow and you still need your boss to go over that report. Sounds like you need to schedule a meeting with your man so he can leave you breathless and thinking about anything but Melvin in accounting.

4. When You Didn’t Get a Chance to Exercise That Day
There’s no denying that exercise brings with it a myriad of mood-boosting benefits, but on some days, gym time just isn’t in the cards. Not only does sex require both light cardio and flexibility, it leaves you with a glow that’s at least as noticeable as the one you leave yoga with.

5. When You’re Procrastinating
You said you were going to finally organize that wall in your closet today, and you will...as soon as you take care of this one pressing errand.

6. When One of You Is Leaving Town for a While
You’re going to miss him, he’s going to miss you, and you’re both going to be lonely and in different cities for a stretch. Forget talking about it, and let your bodies give each other the send-off you both deserve.

7. When You’re Bored
Boredom is a gateway emotion that can lead to all kinds of ill-advised decisions, from going on an online shopping spree to cutting your own bangs. Make a little nookie instead, and avoid these unsafe, non-sexual activities.

8. When You Need a Mid-Afternoon Pick-Me-Up
You hit book club brunch in the morning, and you’ve got that bridal shower later, and you’re feeling so sleepy and sluggish that you have no idea how you’ll power through. Instead of chugging one of those drinks that’s full of caffeine and rocket fuel, recharge with some good old-fashioned oxytocin.

9. When You Get a Bad Haircut
You’ve cried. You’ve processed it. You’ve texted your sister. There’s no undoing that abomination that is currently on your head, but sex can help you remember that your hair isn’t the thing he finds hottest about you anyway.

10. When You Can’t Decide on a Movie
You’re feeling romance, he’s in the mood for action. Combine the two genres by skipping the movie altogether and hitting the main attraction in your bedroom.

11. When Dinner Reservations Are Late and You’re Both Hungry
You’ve been waiting to try this new place forever, and you don’t want to ruin your appetite. Still, a 10:30 pm reservation has you both so irritable that you’ll be lucky to make it to valet parking before one of you bites the other's head off. Stave off the hanger by satisfying an appetite that has nothing to do with your stomach.

12. When You Just Impulse Bought Some Lingerie
You had one too many espresso shots in that latte and suddenly found yourself in Vicky’s deciding that you needed a maribou teddy. Slip into it as soon as you get home, and it will become clear that you made the responsible decision.

13. When You’re Staying at a Horrible Hotel
The sheets are stiff, the air is stuffy, and you don’t even want to know what’s going on under the bed. There’s only one way to get your mind off of this horrifying room—and it’s not by calling room service. (Just remember to use that "Do Not Disturb" sign.)

These Are the Types of Tattoos People Get Removed the Most

It’s not just ex-girlfriends’ names.

Tattoos are everywhere right now, from Bachelorette Kaitlyn Bristowe's pretty bicep birds to pretty much every celebrity to, well, quite possibly you.

After all, according to a Harris Interactive poll, one in five adults in the U.S. has at least one tattoo. Women are slightly more likely than men to get inked (23 percent versus 19 percent), the poll found, and 86 percent of people say they’ve never regretted getting inked.

Of course, that means 14 percent do regret it. When that happens, at least, there are options.

RELATED: Yikes—Tattoos Can Actually Cause Long-Term Skin Problems (and We’ve Got a Pic as Proof)

A lot of dermatologists offer tattoo removal now, including Ava Shamban, M.D., a board-certified dermatologist practicing in Santa Monica, California, and author of Heal Your Skin.

She says the most popular tattoo style she removes, by far, is one that features an ex's name. "Ex-boyfriend and former spouse tattoo removal is a big request," she says. That includes tatted-on wedding rings, which Shamban says she's removed for a few actors.

After exes, she typically removes ink that’s just a little...off. "I've removed plenty of angry angels and weird tattoos," she says. "You just don't know what state of mind people were in when they got them."

She also has seen several patients who want highly-visible tattoos removed that aren’t compatible with their work, like a wrist tattoo that isn't covered by the suits you have to wear during your day job at a conservative law firm.

Here's what one woman's tattoo looks like after three laser removal sessions:

A photo posted by @atlanticlaser on Jun 4, 2015 at 9:58am PDT

RELATED: Are You Really Ready for a Tattoo?

A word of caution: Some colors are harder to remove than others. The hardest are the ones that are closest to a person's skin color, like yellows, beiges, and browns. "The pigment isn't picked up well by the laser," says Shamban.

The next hardest colors are red (some people are allergic to the pigment and can get a reaction during the removal), greens, and blues. Blacks, however, are the easiest to blast, she says.

The amount of time it takes for a removal varies by the tattoo type and location on a person's body, and Shamban prefers to wait two months between treatments to see how much of the ink’s pigment will be gone.

While it's a costly process, and kind of a pain in the behind for the person with the tat, Shamban says it's definitely possible to completely remove a tattoo.

Her advice: Have a good think before you get a tattoo, especially about where you plan to put it on your body. And maybe take a pass at inking your significant other's name on your body—just in case.

7 Disturbing Facts You Never Knew About Yeast Infections

More than you ever wanted to know about your angry va-jay-jay

Between the itching, burning, and discharge, yeast infections can be a total pain in the...well, vagina. But did you know they're not just a down-there problem? According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, there are more than 20 different species of candida yeasts on and in your body (like, right now) that can cause a yeast infection—and not necessarily below the belt. Want to protect yourself? Here are seven more icky factoids you should know:

That honor goes to bacterial vaginosis (BV), an infection that's caused by an overgrowth of bacteria in the vagina. Much like a yeast infection, BV festers when the vagina's pH levels are out-of-whack—but unfortunately, OTC treatments aren't available. Because it's caused by bacteria and not yeast, attempting to use yeast infection meds to combat BV can make your symptoms worse (cue the sad trombone). If you self-treat thinking it's a yeast infection but your symptoms stick around, check in with your gyno to find out what's what, says Antonio Pizarro, M.D., a board-certified gynecologist in Shreveport, Louisiana.

Speaking of which, two out of three women who buy yeast infection meds don't really have a yeast infection, according to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Over time, your body can become resistant to the treatment, making it that much harder to fight a legit yeast infection in the future. If you self-treat and don't see results within a few days or your symptoms return within a month, it's either a sign you're resisting the meds—or that you're treating the wrong condition, says Pizarro. It's important to visit your gyno in either scenario so you can be treated properly.

RELATED: 9 Weird Vagina Issues—Solved!

It's called thrush, and it's just as nasty as it sounds. The yeast overgrowth causes cottage cheese-like lesions that can take over your mouth—tongue, cheeks, and gums—not to mention mess with your esophagus and make it über painful to swallow. Luckily, says Pizarro, thrush can be treated with a prescription of anti-fungal lozenges called troches. (Phew.)

We wish we were kidding. Candida organisms set up shop in the rectum, so when you poop, it's possible for the organisms to migrate to the vagina, says Jason James, M.D., a board-certified ob-gyn in Miami. There's no foolproof way to prevent this, but "decreasing candida in the rectum might be accomplished by eating probiotics, and decreasing transmission might be achieved by good hygiene—showers preferably over baths," says James. You should also avoid having vaginal sex immediately after anal sex to cut back on your chances of yeast moving from your rectum to your vagina, he adds.

RELATED: How Your Food Impacts Your Vagina

If a dude has unprotected sex with a woman and she has a yeast infection, he may end up with one, too. Symptoms can include itching, burning, redness, and a rash on the penis, says James. Most can be treated with an OTC yeast infection treatment (and it's best you both be treated to avoid reinfecting each other). There may not be instuctions for dudes on the box, so James recommends he apply the cream directly to the infected area twice daily for five to seven days.

This is not a drill: According to the Mayo Clinic, women whose blood-sugar levels are out-of-whack are more likely to develop yeast infections. When your blood-glucose level is high, the excess sugar increases the likelihood of yeast growth—and repeat infections. Pizarro recommends women with three or more yeast infections a year make an appointment to rule out diabetes or other serious conditions.

RELATED: 10 Wonderful Things You Should Know About Your Vagina

Candida is naturally found in the digestive tract, but how much you have depends on your noshing habits. A 2013 study published in the journal PLOS One found people who ate oodles of carbs were more susceptible to yeast infections than people who munched on proteins, amino acids, and fatty acids. In fact, the participants' candida levels increased immediately after eating carbs. (Don't say we didn't warn you.)

Watch This 92-Year-Old Woman Become the Oldest Marathon Finisher Ever

And she did it all in the name of charity.

This article was written by Alison Wade and provided by our partners at Runner's World.

Harriette Thompson, 92, became the oldest woman to complete a marathon on Sunday when she finished the San Diego Rock ’n’ Roll Marathon in 7:24:36. She surpassed the record set by Gladys Burrill, who ran 9:53:16 at the 2010 Honolulu Marathon, 19 days after her 92nd birthday, when she was 74 days younger than Harriette is now.

Harriette told Runner’s World Newswire Thursday night, “I’ll be the most surprised person if I finish it. I hope I will!”

Most used player for workouts, articles, and cover models

The cancer survivor, concert pianist, and grandmother of 10 covered the course in 16:59 per mile, with a combination of running and walking. Harriette, of Charlotte, North Carolina, has run the San Diego race for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society 16 times since 1999, missing only the 2013 race as she battled cancer.

Upon finishing yesterday’s race, Harriette told competitor.com, “I thought it was like Lindbergh coming in after his flight,” of the response that greeted her at the finish line.

RELATED: Bucket List: 10 Races For Wine Lovers

“I was really tired at one point,” she told the Charlotte Observer after the race. “Around Mile 21, I was going up a hill and it was like a mountain, and I was thinking, ‘This is sort of crazy at my age.’ But then I felt better coming down the hill.”

Harriette has had a challenging year as she lost her husband of 67 years, Sydnor Thompson, to cancer in January and dealt with painful wounds on her legs, a result of radiation treatment she underwent to treat squamous cell carcinoma. Many of Harriette's family members and friends have battled cancer.

“That makes it personal, something that I really feel is important,” says Harriette. She has raised more than $100,000 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society in 16 years of running the race.

As far as she knows, Harriette is cancer-free right now, however, and heading into Sunday’s race, she even entertained thoughts of trying for the 7:07:42 90–94 age group world record she established a year ago.

Her son, Brenny Thompson, 56, has accompanied his mother during the race in recent years. He helps make sure that she has the fuel she needs, serves as a bodyguard, and fields photo requests along the way.

“Since I’m so old, everybody wants to have their picture taken with me," says Harriette. "Brenny says, ‘Don’t stop her, just take a selfie,’ rather than stop and take pictures all the time because I’d never get to the end. But it’s funny—all you need to do is get to be 90-something and you get lots of attention."

Harriette says that as long as she is able to, she will continue running the San Diego race.

“I keep thinking, ‘I don’t deserve this [attention],’ but if it helps or if it encourages anybody, it makes me feel good,” she says. “I think if I can do it, anybody can do it because I wasn’t trained to be a runner. But I have also found that it’s very invigorating. I feel like a million dollars when I’m finished.”

Demi Lovato Speaks Up About Living with Bipolar Disorder

The singer shares how she felt when she was finally diagnosed, and what life is like in recovery.

Demi Lovato has never been shy about sharing her personal story. Back in 2011, the now-22-year-old entered rehab, where she was diagnosed with bipolar disorder after years of struggling with bulimia, cutting, and drug addiction. Now, the singer of hit songs such as “Heart Attack” and “Skyscraper” is the spokesperson for a new campaign called Be Vocal: Speak Up for Mental Health. The initiative focuses on encouraging people with mental illness to speak up, as well as for others to raise their voices in support of changing the way mental illness is talked about and breaking down the stigma surrounding it.

“It’s a passion of mine—mental health advocacy—and I’ve decided to partner up with Be Vocal because it’s something that’s really powerful when it comes to not only informing people about what mental illness is, but also what you can do to get help,” Demi tells WomensHealthMag.com. She adds that she wants women to know that “it’s possible to live well, feel well, and also find happiness with bipolar disorder or any other mental illness they’re struggling with.”

RELATED: What You Need to Know About Suicide and Depression

While many celebs try to keep their personal health issues out of the press, Demi is using her platform to raise awareness and help others in need. “I remember sitting with my manager and my family and talking to them about whether or not to speak out about the issues that I was dealing with,” she says. “I knew that there were two options: I could either not talk about my stint in rehab and hope that it went away, or I could talk about it and inspire people to get help for their issues, as well, so that’s exactly what I did.”

A photo posted by Demi Lovato (@ddlovato) on May 28, 2015 at 4:27am PDT

According to DBSA, about 5.7 million American adults have bipolar disorder. What’s more, it can often take years for someone to get the correct diagnosis. This is what happened to Demi. “For years, people said I was depressed, and I actually didn’t know myself why I was so upset and why I would have these episodes of mania—what I now know is mania,” she says.

During these manic periods, Demi says she’d stay up until 5 a.m. and write seven songs in one night. “Sometimes I felt invincible, and it was these moments when my mind would go all over the place,” she says. Not knowing what was behind her behavior led to addiction. "When you don’t know what’s happening, why you’re feeling certain ways, and you don’t have the answers yet, people tend to self-medicate, which is exactly what I did," she says. "Now I know that when I focus on my treatment plan with my team and my support system, I’m able to not only maintain a healthy mind, but I’m able to maintain my sobriety."

RELATED: Demi Lovato Is Speaking Out About Bipolar Disorder

Demi was relieved when she finally got the diagnosis. “I went into treatment and I was able to work with incredible doctors who helped me figure out that I was, in fact, bipolar, she says. “It was a great feeling to find out that there wasn’t anything wrong with me,” she says. “I just had a mental illness.”

I've never felt more comfortable and confident in my skin than I did today... Recovery and body acceptance IS possible!!!!

— Demi Lovato (@ddlovato) May 27, 2015

While she’s doing well now, Demi says recovery is something she has to work on every single day. “You’re not a car that goes into the shop and gets fixed and you don’t have to deal with the problem again,” she says. When asked if she ever struggles with being tempted to slip back into old habits, she had this to say: “It gets easier, but of course there are times that it’s difficult. But I know everything that I would lose—not only my friends and family, but my fans. They look up to me, and I don’t want anyone to think that it’s okay to go back on what you stand for.”

RELATED: These Powerful Photos Perfectly Capture What It’s Like to Have Anxiety

One of the major ways Demi maintains her mental health and sobriety is through working out for an hour to an hour and a half every day. “I actually exercise as much as possible because there’s something that it does—it just helps,” she says, explaining that she enjoys a mix of circuit training, cycling, and hiking. “I used to meditate every day, as well. I don’t do that as often [anymore] because I feel like exercise is kind of a form of meditation for me—what it does to me spiritually and physically.”

7 Signs You Need to Try Another Bra Size

Is it time to break up with your boulder holder?

Like when you found out what sex was or that Lance Bass is gay, discovering that you've been wearing the wrong bra size is a life-altering moment.

Unfortunately, a lot of women are still living in the dark, says Lori Kaplan, director of Bra*Tenders lingerie store in New York City. And ignorance is definitely not bliss. "When you're wearing the right-sized bra, you can look 10 pounds thinner and 10 years younger in a minute," says Kaplan. That's because, when your girls are lifted, your waist is more distinguishable and your torso looks longer, she says.

14 Ways You Might Be Brushing Your Teeth Wrong

Karin Brånebäck / Creative Commons / via Flickr

1. Your toothbrush bristles aren’t soft enough.

When you bought your toothbrush did it say “Soft” or “Extra Soft” on the package? No? Then it’s probably the wrong toothbrush. Hard bristles can weaken tooth enamel. You also want the head of the brush to be small enough to easily reach all your teeth.

2. You’re brushing too hard.

Going at your chompers like you’re sandblasting a floor is just going to do more damage to your tooth enamel and can even hurt your gums and lead to gum recession. If you simply can’t control your strength, an angled handle can help ease the pressure on your teeth.

Read This Before You Make Your Afternoon Coffee Run

Over the past few years, there’s been plenty of buzz about coffee’s health benefits. Research has yielded conflicting results, with some showing that a cup of java could make a workout feel easier and even protect you from skin cancer, and others saying that too much coffee could have long-term consequences on heart health.

Just when it seemed as if the coffee debate was put to rest (the Dietary Guidelines for Americans officially recommended three to five cups a day for good health), a new study has called into question the impact not of how many cups, but when you drink those cups. While it’s a given that consuming caffeine at night will keep you up, this research, published in the journal Science Translational Medicine, found that it can shift your circadian clock back by 40 minutes.

Since your circadian clock is what controls your body’s metabolic rhythm, this shift could have an effect on your weight, energy and more. However, researchers say that as long as you keep your buzz to the morning and avoid coffee about six hours before bed, this effect is unlikely to occur.

One potentially positive impact of the findings: since jet lag occurs when your circadian rhythm gets out of sync, caffeine might help to fight it. Now, researchers just need to find out how much you should have and when to maximize the benefits.

Arriving in Paris without feeling groggy? We’ll take that any day.

Chris Pratt's PDA Advice: 'Keep It Classy'

...And other love advice from the happily wed <i>Jurassic World</i> star

Chris Pratt, a.k.a. the most loveable man on earth, recently sat down with Women's Health to share some romantic words of wisdom. The 36-year-old star of Jurassic World, who is married to actress Anna Faris and is basically the best celebrity dad ever, had this to say when we asked him if he was a fan of PDA:

"Yes. But it's a fine line," he said. "Keep it classy. Don't be gross. I don't mind PDA; I do mind GPDA, which is Gross Public Displays of Affection."

RELATED: You Will Fall Madly in Love with This Celeb After Hearing Him Gush About His Son

We couldn't agree more. But his advice didn't end there. Check out his insightful response when we asked him if it's ever okay to lie to your partner:

"Honesty is the best policy, but being mindful of someone's feelings is also very important. It's not okay to lie, but it is okay to protect your partner. And understanding the difference requires wisdom."

And if you had any question about whether his relationship with wife Anna Faris is anything short of perfect, here's what he told us when we asked him if opposites attact:

"Well, scientifically it's a fact, because you can look at the polarity of the water molecule and the capillary action of ice and water," he said with a laugh. "It can be true in real life, too, but I don't think it's a rule. If you're like Anna and myself, we're very similar. We married ourselves because we have comparable egos and abnormally high self-esteem."

All together now: Aww!

How to Master a Romantic Breakfast in Bed—Without Ruining Your Sheets

Yes, there's a correct way to eat al mattress-o.

Breakfast in bed sounds like exactly what you want to be doing with your love on a Sunday morning...until your well-intentioned meal turns into your bed's worst nightmare. Half a jar of strawberry jelly on your satin sheets isn't exactly sexy. To save your linens and make your breakfast in bed experience as hot as possible, we asked pros how to do it right.

Pancakes, peanut butter toast, and anything with jelly are basically the enemy, says Steve Wann, owner of Prevailing Winds Lodge, a bed and breakfast in Wisconsin. Instead, opt for foods that aren't so sticky or drippy. Think: omelets, bacon, yogurt with granola, and fresh fruit, he says.

Besides choosing meals that aren't a sloppy mess, you can also prevent post-breakfast laundry by putting drinks in sealable containers, says Courtney Silhan, the assistant general manager at The Mill House Inn in Long Island, New York. "We use pretty jars with lids on them when we carry things like coffee or juice up to the rooms," she says. Mason jars are perfect for this; you can pop the lids off and drink straight from the jar or pour the juice or coffe into glasses, says Silhan. Choose your own adventure.

When it comes to creating the perfect place to park that juice, Wann says you should set individual place settings for each of you on separate trays. Make sure the tray fits everything from glasses to salt and pepper, he says. We like the Reclaimed Wood Tray ($98, anthropologie.com). "That way the both of you have a setting to eat over and contain the mess."

Keeping the food in your mouth and off of your bedding is super important, but what's even more vital for a sexy breakfast is to set the perfect ambiance. For starters, turn off the boob tube and play some soft music, says Wann. He says that the TV can be a huge distraction from your food and your partner—and aren't those two things the point of breakfast in bed? Yep.

Next, add some fresh flowers and freshly squeezed juice to you and your partner's trays to help emphasize the fact that you're making an effort to create a special moment, says Wann. "There's something about fresh juice that feels so luxurious," he says.

Then, you'll want to enforce a "robes only" dress code since staying in a nice, fluffy robe is a solid reminder to relax, says Wann. "When you're having breakfast in bed, you're not rushing to get dressed to go do something right away," he says. "You're spending quality time with your partner." Plus, robes tend to show a little extra skin. Wink.

In case we didn't emphasize this point enough, remember to sit back and enjoy the food and the view. (Hello, open bathrobe!) "When you put a lot of effort into creating a great meal and a great environment, you should take time to appreciate it," says Wann. "If you're going to rush through it, you're better off just getting something at the drive through."

Today’s News: The Government Wants You to Have an Orgasm

The latest on the drug approval fight for "Viagra for women"

Today, a Food and Drug Administration (FDA) committee voted 18-6 in favor of approving flibanserin, a pill that's earned the nickname "Viagra for women." It's meant to treat premenopausal women suffering from hypoactive sexual desire disorder (HSDD), which is characterized as "persistently or recurrently deficient (or absent) sexual fantasies and desire for sexual activity," according to an FDA briefing document. Basically, when you have HSDD, your libido goes MIA. More than that, for women dealing with this problem, a lack of sexual interest can be seriously distressing.

Although the drug won't be officially approved or rejected by the FDA until August, the decision is a landmark moment in flibanserin's layered history. The vote came on the heels of intense criticism that the FDA was being biased against women by rejecting the drug two previous times, first in 2010 under pharmaceutical company Boehringer Ingelheim, then in 2013 with Sprout Pharmaceuticals, which still owns it. Read on for the controversy that's followed fliban-serin's approval process.

RELATED:7 Factors You Didn't Realize Were Killing Your Sex Drive

Has Gender Bias Been Involved?
The struggle to get flibanserin approved has seemingly pitted some women's health advocacy groups against the FDA. One, Even the Score, has been vocal about how the medical industry treats women's sexual issues as lesser than men's. "Millions of women living with this disorder don’t have a single FDA-approved treatment option for HSDD,” says Even the Score's Change.org petition to Stephen Ostroff, acting FDA commissioner. “And that’s while men have 26 FDA-approved treatments marketed for male sexual dysfunction. You read that correctly: 26."

Groups like The National Organization for Women and CHANGE: Center for Health and Gender Equity have joined in on the fight, writing letters to Janet Woodcock, M.D., the director of Center for Drug Evaluation and Research. These calls to action all maintain a similar theme: The FDA should take this chance to potentially change women's sex lives for the better, or at the very least, seriously consider it.

Some government officials have also voiced their support. "We firmly believe that equitable access to healthcare should be a fundamental right, regardless of whether you are a man or a woman,” says a March 26 letter from 11 Congressional representatives to then-FDA commissioner Margaret Hamburg. “But when it comes to sexual health—and, in particular, sexual dysfunction—that is not the case." The letter goes on to say that over 11,000 women have undergone clinical trials for flibanserin, allegedly the most ever for a women's drug, and that the potential side effects pale in comparison to the ones from products intended to keep men's blood pumping in all the right places. "The most common side effects observed in clinical trials for a drug to combat HSDD were fatigue, nausea, sleepiness, difficulty sleeping, dizziness, and dry mouth,” say the members of Congress. “By contrast, the 26 FDA-approved drugs for male sexual dysfunction list side effects ranging from prolonged erection, blindness, heart attack, and stroke."

The FDA has countered claims that there is sexism afoot. "The agency evaluates drugs based on science and strongly rejects claims of gender bias," says Andrea Fischer, an FDA spokeswoman. Plus, there are two classes of FDA-approved medications to treat pain during intercourse and two classes of FDA-approved medications to treat erectile dysfunction, she says. Beyond that, there's one FDA-approved treatment for Peyronie's disease, a condition that causes abnormal curvature of the penis. The FDA's bottom line: There isn't a single FDA-approved drug to treat actual sexual desire or orgasm in men (treating erectile dysfunction is technically about helping the blood pump to the penis properly, so it doesn't qualify). That includes what the FDA says are dozens of testosterone products included in the "26 FDA-approved drugs" the letter from Congress cites. "The testosterone therapies are only approved as replacement therapy in men who have low testosterone levels due to specific medical conditions,” says Fischer. “None of the testosterone therapies are FDA-approved to specifically treat male sexual dysfunction."

RELATED: I Had Sex for 23 Years and Never Orgasmed—Until I Tried This Trick

What's more, the FDA says in its two prior reviews of flibanserin, there wasn't enough proof that the potential risks of the drug outweighed the benefits. In the first review cycle, the FDA rejected the drug based on nine concerns ranging from lack of statistically significant change in one of the measures of sexual desire to an incomplete 12-week trial, according to the June 4 meeting materials. The second time around, there were six major factors including a clinically significant flibanserin-alcohol interaction and fatigue that could potentially cause accidental injury. Each of the 18 members who voted to recommend flibanserin mentioned the caveat that those risks need to be reduced, and the six who were against it frequently called upon the side effects when explaining why. Still, more of them than not thought it showed enough promise to earn the recommendation.

The gender equity debate is certainly a piece of this puzzle, but parsing it out shouldn't come at the risk of forgetting who's at the middle of this conversation: real women who are distraught over their lack of sexual desire. When it comes down to it, these advocacy groups and the FDA have the same end goal of finding a safe method of treatment that can improve as many sex lives as possible—and, most important, women's sexual self-esteem. An official backing for approval while requiring more scientific exploration of side effects is a middle-of-the-road choice that will hopefully help tons of women in the near future.

Find Out How Your Sex Number Compares to Other People’s

In case you’d rather not learn during an awkward bachelorette party game

You know you're curious about how your number compares to other people's (hence the premise of the Anna Faris film). But now, you can stop wondering, thanks to a new "sex history calculator" from Slate.com.

"You, dear reader, are a human being. And as a human being, you are naturally curious, a little bit self-conscious, and maybe even competitive about sex," write Andrew Kahn and Jordan Weissmann while introducing the interactive tool. They go on to explain that, after hearing about research that found many millennials are on track to have fewer sexual partners throughout the course of their lifetime than their parents, they wanted to create something that would help individuals put the data used in the study into context. So they took the data from the General Social Survey (what the authors of the aforementioned study went off of) and used it to create a calculator. Here's what the tool says about a 28-year-old woman who's slept with six people:

RELATED: How Often You Should Aim to Have Sex with Your Partner

And here's what it says about a man with the same stats:

Of course, that doesn't mean that any given number is "better" than any other—but it is interesting to see yourself charted against everyone else. To try the tool for yourself, visit Slate.com.

10 Things All Brides Do But Would Never Admit To

Like, you know, turning your bridesmaids into your servants

You’re knee-deep in the months of budgeting, working out like a fiend, and negotiating with your mother. You’ve resolved not to turn into a bridezilla because you are not that kind of bride. You are a perfect angel who’s not asking for much: just a fairytale party that meets the fantastical expectations you’ve had since childhood. You’ll succeed for the most part at this, but underneath those layers of test makeup, you’re still human, and thus likely to commit these 10 bridal behaviors.

1. Consider Taking Out a Second Mortgage for the Dress of Your Dreams
You were warned not to try on a dress that was out of your price range, but you saw those layers of chiffon and that beading that was so unique and you just couldn’t resist—and now your days and nights are haunted with images of you walking down the aisle in a dress that’s (literally) suited for a princess. You guys don’t really need appetizers at your wedding, right? And flowers are so overrated.

2. Wonder if You Can Get Away with Uninviting Your Mother from Your Wedding
Yes, you realize she gave you life and made you the person you are today, or whatever, but with every “family friend” she “asks” you to invite and every comment about how it’s “interesting” that your bridesmaids are showing so much skin, you have horrible fantasies about eloping or somehow letting Mom’s invite get lost in the mail.

3. Turn Your Bridesmaids into Your Servants
That DIY centerpiece looked so easy on Pinterest, but the reality is that you have way too much spray tanning and teeth whitening to do and thus do not have time to hot glue fake birds onto 23 mason jars. Luckily, you have a trusty group of beloved girlfriends who are there to do manual labor craft for you while you boss them around give them constructive criticism.

4. Invite People Because You’re Secretly Hoping They’ll Offer a Service You Can Use
Whittling down your list is so hard, and the final decision on who makes the cut depends on a number of factors—not least of which, if you’re honest, is whether one of your friends is an amazing photographer or has the voice of an angel. You’d feel worse if you weren’t paying $75 for their dinner.

5. Scour Your Fiancé’s Friends’ Instagram Accounts for Details on What Happened at the Bachelor Party
You said that you trusted him and just wanted him to have fun at his party, and you meant it...until visions of a woman named Fantasy giving him a lap dance went racing through your mind.

6. Cheat...on Your Stupid Wedding Diet
The big day will come and go, but those photos are around forever, which is why you’ve committed to this amazing (torturous) miracle (idiotic) diet. Maybe you’d actually be able to subsist on quinoa and kale if you weren’t dealing with an endless list of flaky caterers and friends who still haven’t RSVP'd and OMG someone give you a cookie, like, yesterday.

7. Go Back and Forth over Whether You Will Change Your Last Name
His last name is okay...for something that sounds like a rare kind of fungus. You want to have the same name as your kids someday, though, so you’ll probably take it. Or maybe you should hyphenate? Regardless of what you decide, you’ll have long conversations with multiple girlfriends before ever bringing it up with him.

8. Be Perpetually Disappointed in One of Your Bridesmaids
It’s hard to believe right now, but there was a time in your life when this wedding wasn’t all you could think about. Back in those days, when you were called to duty as a bridesmaid, you swore that when it was your turn, you wouldn’t freak out over everyone attending every single event. And yet, here you are, furiously explaining to your sister that her selfish decision to go to the ER on the day of your shower is making you question her love for you.

9. Be Truly Horrified by Some of the Presents You Receive
It’s the thought that counts—unless that thought is, “this couple definitely needs a bright orange crocheted tea cosy.” You’re very grateful for every gift you guys get (that’s your official stance anyway), but for the life of you, you can’t remember registering at the flea market.

10. Make the Secret Executive Decision to Wear Hair and Eyelash Extensions for the Rest of Your Life
Yes, you said you were going to get them “just for the wedding,” and you meant it— but after spending one day running errands with your all-false-everything, you’ve gotten a taste of what it feels like to look like a pop star. And you’re never going to give it up. You’ll figure out that whole “find time and money to go to a salon every week” thing as soon as you get your seating plan done.
