New Trend: College is no more important than before.

If you want a good job, go to college. This has been a maxim of American life since the 1980s, when the “college premium” – the extra income boost from going to college – truly soared into the stratosphere. But an interesting thing has happened in the last decade and a half – the college premium has stagnated. College is still valuable, but by at least one measure, it's not getting more valuable each year. Perhaps that's why American college enrollment declined last year. Expect that to put a damper on skyrocketing college tuition and soaring student loans.

Charlene and I recently published a report that documented the 6 Stages of Social Business Transformation.  In the process, we discovered the most common mistakes and successes businesses experienced along their journey.   What was most surprising however, not really, was the cavernous disconnect between social media strategy and overall business objectives.

- Only 34% of businesses feel that their social strategy is connected to business outcomes.

- Just 28% of companies we studied feel that they have a holistic approach to social media, where lines of business and business functions work together under a common vision.

- Only half said that top executives were “informed, engaged and aligned with their companies’ social strategy.”

 

The report was written to help strategists bridge the gap by understanding where they are, where they want to be, and how to get there efficiently.  Charlene and I also noticed that the most elite companies among those we studied shared seven success factors in their social business strategy. Un artículo muy interesante y muy de acuerdo con lo que expone, sólo explicitaría/resaltaría algo que dice, la eficacia operativa se basa en el corto plazo de tiempo, mientras que la estrategia se dirige al largo plazo de tiempo (10 años o incluso más) ... y ha de ir evolucionando según la visión, misión y valores, que conllevan nuestro posicionamiento.


Personalmente creo que una de las razones por las que nos vemos en la situación actual es por confundir estrategia y táctica y por el cortoplacismo que ha "reinado" en las empresas.

McAfee turned its training around that both saved both time and produced more lucrative sales: ...an average of $500,000 per year in sales [attributed to] new training model.


Before Intel giant McAfee revamped its new-hire orientation, ...80 hours long [with] ... 40 hours of pre-work,, 5 days of on-site training, and ...post-...to be completed at home.

 

To fix its problem, McAfee turned to ....Massive Open Online Courses, or MOOCs...called “flipping the classroom” [where]...a majority of learning happens ...by giving students access to course materials and having them probe, discuss, and debate issues with fellow learners as well as the professor.

Companies ...have to trust the learner to do this,  by incorporating more opportunities for peer reviews and peer-to-peer dialogues into the course.

 

With that change, McAfee turned its training around in a way that both saved both time and produced more lucrative sales: its sales associates now attribute an average of $500,000 per year in sales to the skills they learned through the new training model. 

 

Three MOOC elements are particularly well-suited to corporate learning & development:  Semi-synchronicity  (cohorts ...[can] motivate each other as they go through the program),  course design (flipping the classroom), and credentials

 

In a recent Future Workplace survey, completed by 195 corporate learning and HR professionals, 70 percent of respondents said they saw opportunities to integrate MOOCs into their own company’s learning programs. Even further, this sample of respondents made six recommendations for how MOOC providers could adapt to needs of corporations:
